Distended abdomen is a tummy that looks too full.... it comes outwards.
There are many causes for it.

When your stomach is distended, it looks big and can look swollen, as if you have eaten too much food.
People with stomach problems can often have bloated bellies. People with IBS and/or constipation and other stomach problems can have very bloated/swollen bellies and their pant size can increase due to this. Once they have opened their bowels this may resolve and this may also be due to an inbalance in the bacteria in the gut. If you look at their belly, it may well look fat, swollen and large because of this.
People with liver problems may also have bloated and swollen bellies due to having fluid in it. Their bellies will look massive and if you feel their belly it will feel very rigid and hard and the skin may look shiny.

it could mean you have too much fluid in your system(your body is unable to adequately get rid of fluid intake) or you could have a hernia. if it gets larger/more harder/swollen after you eat that could be the case. or since u say u were sick malnourished if u havent been eating the same.excess gas can cause a bloated stomach as well.

kind of swollen. it sticks out almost like during pregnancy. ever seen those infomercials for poverty stricken countries? most of the kids in those pics have distened stomachs.
