I know "are" is "sind" and "be" is "sein," but I cannot figure out for the life of me what "am" is. I know they are all similar in meaning (just in different tenses and pluralities) but I can't figure it out. Thanks!

Use Babelfish's (google Babelfish) translator from alta vista and it will translate the word am from english to German. Not sure if it will conjugate it though (German's conjugate. Right?). That's the downside of Babel fish, they don't conjugate words for you, or place adjetives in their right order, if you say red chair they will say "rojo silla", which is giberish in spanish compared to the correct "silla rojo".
