I don't open websites. In my opinion, yes. Intelligence stems from inquistiveness. If you are told you may no longer ask questions, that part of your brain shuts off.

Didn't open the link but, yes religion does make people less inteligent. It's one part how it's "shut up and accept it as fact, don't question the church" and the other part is all the time wasted with it. Out of all the people I know the atheists are way smarter, me included.

No. It just keeps them in a holding pattern. Religious people are no more or less intelligent than they were a hundred years ago. Therein lies the problem. Those of us who reject religion actually learn a great deal more about the world, while those who blindly follow stay in their boxes. It should be noted that being a believer and being religious are two different things. If you don't know the difference, guess which one you are. Many of my friends are believers, but they are not blinded by religion. If they were, I doubt they would be friends with me.

Statistics would say yes.

The more intelligent you are the more likely you are to be atheist.

From about 10% to 20% in the general population, up to >90% for members of the National Academy of Sciences

No. Religion is not the cause of stupidity, it is the cause of thoughtless action. That isn't stupidity, it's simply action on impulse.

But, many stupid things happen because of the aforementioned lack of thought... like religious war and biggotry etc.

Religion, if indoctrination and aggressive tendencies to propagate it ceased, would be a good thing because it teaches us to work together, love each other and build strong communities... but as of now it is uselss because of people using it profit themselves and the lack of thought many have as a result of their mindless believing.

It's kind of like the chicken and the egg question:

Are people dumber because of religion, or are they religious because they're dumber?

I think the two feed of each other. You have to have a screw loose to believe in invisible friends as an adult, but when all your adult friends have invisible friends, it makes it harder to rely on common sense.

"Religion" challenges us to stretch to boundaries of our known physical world....anything that challenges us can not make us less intelligent. Many think science and faith have no ties; but there is boundless proof to the contrary. Facts prove that people who profess faith live longer, happier lives...

Religion or lack there of has nothing to do with intelligence.

There are ignorant, dim witted people of every persuasion.
