I just started doing some exercising to get back into shape. I followed a DVD and all was great, but yesterday I really felt it in my legs and butt and still do today. I feel like I'm making excuses not to exercise today still, so I want to check... Is it okay to exercise sore muscles? Or should I just focus on what's NOT sore?

If I get to the point where I hurt all over (which would suck), should I wait until I'm back to normal before working anything again?

I thought I'd add, I haven't worked out in a long time which is probably the cause because I did stretch (the DVD even has some involved to begin with and has a lot of stretching throughout).

Thanks for the answers so far!

sore muscles are from hard work. you are doing great. go easy, but keep working out. if you pulled a muscle that may be a different story, but sore is sore. go easy and dont hurt yourself. walk.

Here is an interesting fact. Muscles that are sore are swollen with the chemical from exercising previously. The way to get rid of the soreness is to walk and stretch and the pain will go away. The more you exercise the less pain you will have. As the muscles start to work, the chemical pumps out of the muscles.

Take a hot bath and then stretch and walk. It will go away.
And Yes it is fine to exercise muscles that are sore from exercise.

Most of the others stated the truth..it's only ok if by dieting you mean eating healthier..NOT eating less. I tried a weird diet last time i was nursing and right away I noticed my milk production wasn't as good. Yes the water will help..but unless you are eating the right things, your baby will steal the nutrients from your body (if you have enough available), and you will get less healthy..or your milk will be more like giving a baby skim milk (may as well be water). I stopped as soon as I noticed it was affecting my milk (and therefore, son)..I could actually see the diff...it was very thin and appeared watered down. I understand trying to lose weight...you can only use the excuse "I just had a baby" for so long:) But I learned my lesson last time (I'm 38wks now) and I'll keep up exercising, but won't start the serious..get my body back, work until I'm done nursing. :)

I am not Completely sure about this though i do know how to prevent this/why this happened. It happened b/c either you haven't exercised in a long time so you body really just isnt used to it, or you didn't stretch or do warm-ups ahead of time...it is important to stretch before exercising b/c it heats up your muscles and gets them ready for a work-out. How to prevent this is simply by stretching before each work-out, and work-out/ exercise routinely. And that is all the help i've got for that...sorry. =[ if i didn't help but i tried. Goodluck and i hope you feel better soon! =]

If you're in a lot of pain, you can hold off. If you're somewhat sore, take it easy but do some light work. You should wait a day between work outs. Playing through the pain could lead to serious injuries. But you need to work out even if it's lazy working out often so you can get into the habit.

you body wasn't used to it and will be sore for a little bit. Do lighter training for the next couple of days just to get the blood flowing and heal faster (don't just sit there doing nothing) and incorporate some stretching too. As the soreness dissipates you'll be good as new.

In short yes you can do light exercise when your sore

when you first start exercising again its completely normal for your muscles to ache and such pain to be caused. it will eventually work itself out, but you should always "warm up" before hand...in other words stretching. you can also try a less intense workout to begin with. they make dvd's for people who are just starting to get back into the routine again or "beginners" workouts....i would try one of those. dont give up though...it gets better , trust me.....when i first started to go to my local gym, i hurt so bad lol but then i got really into it and loved going! good luck...and hope this helps!!

for example : if you are going to workout 3 days make sure that are every other day ok .

you should warming up first.and maybe take it slow. i mean dont push your body too hard. maybe if the action is 4 times 10,you can do it 1 times 10 first.then tomorrow, 2 times 10. so it increases every day.
