We have all been dying since the day we've been born

If there were no life after death, how could they be surprised after they die? Actually, the Bible teaches that death is like a sleep (Lazarus, Jairus's daughter). Check out these texts from God's Word: Ecclesiastes 9:5,6; Psalm 115:17; Psalm 146:4; Isaiah 38:18,19; Job 14:21; 1 Timothy 6:16. Jesus is going to wake up everybody on one of the resurrection days: the resurrection of the saved (1 Thess. 4) and then a thousand years later, the resurrection of the lost - wicked. The saved will be taken to heaven (St. John 14:1-3) and the lost will be burned up - perish (St. John 3:16) - not keep living and suffering as man has depicted to scare people into the church!

Depends on what you mean by "afterlife". If you mean interaction with the living then yes they will be surprised for they will not have that interaction. However, when they are resurrected they will either rise to new perfect bodies and go up to meet the Lord in the air with all of their saved loved ones and friends or they will be raised 1000 years later in their infirm near death state and will be together with their lost friends and will join with the devil in one last attack on Jesus and try to destroy the holy city that comes down out of heaven and settles on the flattened Mount of Olives near Jerusalem. When they attack the city with all the heavenly hosts and saints they will be killed and will never come back. They will be completely burned up as will the earth and then God will create a new earth and new solar system and restore the earth to its pre sins state.

So in summary there actually will be two types of after life as described above: one is eternal life and the other is everlasting or permenent death and total and complete destruction for all eternity. The after life of the lost will be very short probably only less than a year and then they will go through hell, die and cease to exist in any form for ever.

Won't the ones who don't believe in an after-life be surprised to die and find there is one?

No. There is a life after death and the only ones that will be surprised are those that chose to follow the deceiver of this world instead of the Truth, Light and the Way!

God Bless You

I think for some reason we will all be surprised when we die. The way we picture Heaven, Hell and after life may just not be how we see it. It could be a whole lot more sweeter and a whole lot worse.
For now, just live and take care of each other.

No I think those that do not believe in an afterlife will be the surprised ones.

And even more surprised that they have an opportunity to do it all again.

That's stupid ,that's like saying"if you die...I'll kill you!!"
They won't know a thing during the big dirt nap.
By the way there is an afterlife ,I've seen 3 spirits in a 50 year period.

If there is no afterlife how can they be surprised wiseguy?.............if you "find" and are "surprised " at anything after death, is that not "life" "after" death ie. after-life? And if so does that not mean that the only "surprised ones" will be the disbelievers?
