Ticking noise when sitting still, not when moving, 2001 Toyota Tacoma, auto transmission.?

The engine is running when this occurs and the noise is coming from under the hood.

Engine running or not? After the engine stops the exhaust cools as it does it tick tick ticks. No problem just expanding and contraction from heating and cooling. Some cars do the tick for years and others it stops ticking as the exhaust get's old and rusty.
