You already know why we have fear. Its self preservation. If we didn't have fear, we would have died out long ago because some things just aren't good for us to do (things like jumping off a cliff, for example).
The thing is, you can't let your fear rule you. Fear, when it overruns the common senses, can destroy as easily as it can help.

. Fear is doubt of self in a given set of circumstances. To a Christian Fear is lack of Faith. When you Faith is strong your fears are less. Can't answer for an Atheist.

Fear is the natural response to a perceived threat...and it triggers a flight or fight response. Amazing design huh?
Or are you speaking of fear in the God sense? In that case, fear should not play a role at all in my opinion. At least not fear using the same definition as I have used above. We are to respect (fear) God....but not be afraid of Him.

Fear helps keep you alive. It prevents you from doing things that could kill you. In the end, we are like any other species--we're here to survive and reproduce. It's very simple; I fail to see why people feel the need to drag a god into this.

Egoistically speaking, we always assume to be in control. Anything that strikes us that may threaten our grips for controller ship inevitably result to fear.
I think fear motivates a person to go extra miles to find out what's troubling him. If its about life, then he will go deeper to find out what's beyond death and hopefully might find the answer that may give him peace and tranquility.

Fear is a protective response. It signals the body for "fight or flight".

Fear tends to keep people from truly living. It creates imaginary boundaries in one's world to hold them back. No one has ever been afraid of dying. We're all just so afraid of truly living.

I can look down in shame and say not trusting God. Been in the place a few years ago, where I trully thought that God forgot who I was.
