First of all its the catholics who are like that not all christians, the thing is that sexual matters are the big debatable issue there is little to no guidance in the bible so the religous leaders just put their own opinion forward and find a small quote in the bible that could support them. For centuries sexual problems were withheld by common decency but now a combination of human rights and political correctness has almost destroyed common decency so sexual problems are wreaking havok with either too many babies ,too many abortions,STI's , homosexuality or sex before marriage.
Personally I think the catholic church has taken the wrong stance on condoms(they would greatly reduce the over population of much of the 3rd world as well as help control STI's) but the right stance on everything else.

Enjoying sex is not a sin. On the contrary, God gave people the ability to actually enjoy the sexual relationship, unlike most animals who do it only to procreate the species. He has asked however that we restrict it to being a part of the husband/wife relationship because it is intended to strengthen the bond between them. Sex just for fun means nothing five minutes after it is over and does nothing to strengthen the bond. In fact, sociologists have clearly shown that people who have sex whenever and with whomever they please have far less chance of having and maintaining a permanent relationship. It is the permanent relationship that is the most beneficial to society and children that may result. Setting religion aside...you will have to admit that the moral structure outlined by God in the Bible if followed is far more beneficial to society as a whole than any other guidelines. It is for that reason alone...that many of our laws are based on those same values.

Sex was created by God to be shared between a husband and a wife. It is the ultimate act of intimacy between two people. To have sex outside of marriage (rather to procreate or not) is a sin because it is not part of the plan of God. It has nothing to do with being afraid, it is a matter of being obedient to God. In fact, sex is also a picture of the intimacy believer's can have with Christ through a relationship with Him. I'm not saying or implying that we have sex with Christ, so don't go there. I am, however, referring to the closeness and intimacy shared between two married people who truly love one another and desire to be as close as possible to one another. To have sex outside of marriage makes light of the sanctity of marriage and the role of sex in it. Hope this helps you understand a little better.
Study up because the christian religion does not have a ban on condoms. You may be referring to another religion other than Christianity. This is merely 1/10 of what Christians are "focused" on. There are the unsaved, family matters, missions and so on. Most sexually active singles (hetero or homo sexual) decide that Christians are focused on this because sexuality is so much a part of their lives. The life of a true believer in Christ has many more facets than sex.

Pardon me but of course sex is intended primarily for procreation.

The focus of Christianity is salvation. You, my friend, seem to be focused on sexual matters. Sex was intended from the beginning to be between a man and a woman in the confines of marriage.

I can tell you that after 21 years of marriage it just keeps getting better. Neither of us needs to go beyond our marriage to find enjoyment and fulfillment.

Read and study the Bible to find out more about salvation the central focus on Christianity. We sin, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, and the only way to heaven is through Jesus.

I, myself, am extremely afraid of sex. I am 22 and was raised in a very pious Christian home. I was always taught that sex was bad and naughty, and that it was not enjoyable, and of course that it would only lead to children. In a sense, yes I believe that makes me easier to control. It seems like when someone begins having sex, there is a freedom to that person, a nonchalant attitude.. kind of like they no longer feel that they have to prove anything to anyone...I lack that confidence. What's so wrong with sex not intended for procreation? Maybe its just another one of our ultimate punishments as a result of the original sin.

"Do you think of that Atheists are petrified of an afterlife, and so secretly wish that there are no longer any better adventures than this one? " i'm able to in basic terms talk for myself. it isn't the case for me. I have not have been given any concern of death or what happens after. I additionally seek for "better adventures" in this life. "even with each and every little thing, life is a universal volume" Sorry i do no longer accept as true with this the two. you do no longer understand what is going to ensue the following day. it incredibly is shy I stay for right this moment no longer what is going to ensue after i'm ineffective. "Does no person basically sail on with self-worth?" YUP that and the help and help of my friends and family members. @Caitlin, you're incorrect, i'm no longer mendacity to myself or every person else. do no longer assume which you would be able to project your fears onto others. Doing so is basically conceited.

Sex is fully intended by God for us to enjoy. It is not intended only for procreation. See the Song of Solomon! He only gives us one caveat. It is to be enjoyed in the context of marriage.

God knows that when we stray from this path, we can have all sorts of consequences. You know what I mean: Syphilis, gonorrhea, AIDS, unwanted pregnancy, etc.

We think that we know better than God, and that is why we invent ways to avoid those consequences, such as birth control pills, condoms, etc.

We are not animals. We can control our passions. If we were to do this, you'd see these problems virtually disappear.

Nailed it in one. So to speak. *G*

America is a profoundly sex-negative culture. Now, before folks thumbs-down me, that doesn't mean we're *against* sex, it means we have lots of rules and restrictions and taboos *about* sex. This arises from Judea-Christian religion, primarily . . . particularly the puritanical and fundamentalist versions of it that settled HERE. Even the xians over in Europe, for example, don't tend to have the hangups the average NON-churchgoer here does; just look at their beaches!

Makes us good consumers, though, doesn't it? They can sell us anything at all by implying using it will get us laid . . . o_O

I think you are insane. Take a look at how Muslims handle sex with femal genital mutilation, plural marriage, death to girls who lose their virginity. Talk about obsessive.

Christians are not afraid of sexual matters. We just know what constitutes great sex and it has nothing to do with genital contact.
