How about an "I'm sorry, the time got away from me".. It's not a lie but everyone has had that happen to them so they will understand if they are indeed your friends. Give a GOOD gift.. Jim

Tell the truth..
"I lost track of time due to being on Yahoo!Answer I am terribly sorry."
The truth is always the best option it takes the least work as you don't have to remember the lie...
If however you must lie try lying with grandeur... I turned 18 a few months before leaving high school so was able to write my own notes for tardies and being absent one morning I was going to be 15 minutes tardy and spent another 3 hours writing a 5 page note about being late due to a "James Bond" type adventure around the world.. When I turned it in my English teacher laughed hysterically and graded it on grammar, punctuation and flow of ideas.. I got a B and an excused absents.. :)

No, I'm sorry, but there is nothing that goes on here that is so important that you should be 2 hours late to a wedding, because you were hanging out here. You owe those folks an apology, at least you weren't in the wedding party, or at least I hope not. Those folks wanted to include you in a special and important moment in thier lives, and you blew them off for this? Just hope they don't bring it up to you that you were so late, and for pete's sake, get some priorities.

Just bring your laptop to the wedding and show the bride and groom what they are missing.

How important are these people? Personally, if it's not close family or friends, I wouldn't bother going. You've probably missed it all anyway.

You were so involved in praising the bride and groom that you lost track of time.
