Could extreme nationalism be considered blasphemous?
Is there an argument to be found in the observation that pledging "allegiance" to a "flag" resembles idolatry? Yes, God told us to obey the laws of the land, but do not forget that we can change those laws, policies, and elected officials when they have been corrupted.
I mean, a government acts based on what is most beneficial for its citizens, usually in economic terms. But where some gain, others lose. When Jesus fed the hungry in the paradigm of the fishes and loaves, he wasn't being polite. He was teaching them to share.
The actions of Christ and the actions of the Federal Reserve do not coincide. Would it be a sin to condone an international trade policy that kept others in poverty? Is it folly to shed your beliefs at the ballot box?

Well, at least I'm over 5 answers. I know this is a sensitive topic, but I it's a valid question, and people don't shy away from any others that I know of.

I don't think it's folly to shed your beliefs at the ballot box. I have found, however, that some people who profess to be Christian will only vote for the person they consider to be the most Christian of all the candidates. To my mind, they waste the vote, because they're not informed about policy, issues, or even what the candidate really stands for. They hear the sound bites - pro-life, pro capital punishment, uber American patriotism, etc, but do no real research into the person who they cast the ballot for. They vote for whatever will mirror their own beliefs and morality, not necessarily the best person for the job. Would Dubya be in office now if the majority of Americans had really looked at him and his past? I don't know, but I don't think so. In the long run, being an uninformed voter hurts this country, and our ties with the rest of the world.

No. That would only apply if the country or government flat out declared itself your god. And even then i am not sure that the correct term would be blasphemy , maybe more like idolatry. And of course a person should take their beliefs to the ballot box, I am sure most people do.

I can remember when...a president assumed command of a governor's malitia, to share the public education system with a minority that was inspired by a well known preacher. Those inspired citizens, assumed power in a passive act of civil disobediance. The nation was judged, and the entire world pivoted on the position of a very nationalistic president. That act, may have cost him his life.
Has anyone here, seen my old friend Abraham? How bout Martin? John? Bobby?
The power of our democracy, is in our pulpits. And that fact frustates the mugwumps.

I wouldn't call it idolatry so much but respect yes. people are threatened by the things that they don't understand, and considering were a multiracial universe we have to understand where every one is coming from. maybe you should ask your self why you need the answer to this question, if you allready know what that answer might be.

Basically, you asking people to vote with their conscience, not their self-interest. The only real problem with that is that only some would vote that way, then the selfish prigs will win every time.

Political solutions are not long term solutions, plus they perpetuate the action/reaction cycle.
