I once knew a thirty year old that ate paper. It did no harm, and shouldn't with your brother. His system will break down the paper, and it will pass out of him, like everything else. The obvious course, is to take the paper away from him, so that he doesn't eat it.

It depends. If he is eating it because it is grossing you out. He is just doing it for a response. If he is doing it when no one is watching, it actually could be a sign of anemia. Tell your parents to call and get his blood checked. Eating paper and chewing ice cubes are one of the cravings you get when you have an iron deficiency. Good Luck!

This can be a form of pica. Pica is an appetite for non-nutritive substances (e.g., coal, soil, chalk, paper etc.) or an abnormal appetite for some things that may be considered foods, such as food ingredients (e.g., flour, raw potato, starch). In order for these actions to be considered pica, they must persist for more than one month, at an age where eating such objects is considered developmentally inappropriate. I would check with your doctor.

my youngest sister used to eat paper from her reading books and mum got really worried so she took her to the doctor and said she was worried about ink poisning but the doctor said if any thing the paper will be good fibre but dont let her eat it as a meal or snack obviously.so it is not bad for a child to put it in there mouth it wont harm them at all.

if it's not much it's probably harmless-i used to eat paper and loved it! bit it could also be as sign of an iron deficiency that causes a condition called "pica"-a hunger for strange substances.
