The number 6 is considered the number of imperfection, since 7 is the "perfect" number. To have three 6s means extreme imperfection. But this is just coincidence for the writer of the book of Revelation. For him, 666 (or 616 in some manuscripts) represented the numeric value of the letters in someone's name. a name the writer did not wish to state clearly, possibly out of fear of arrest or maybe to keep the option open.

The writer, "John" calls 666 the number of "the Beast", who is an evil being threatening God's people. It is simply a vague identification, not evil in itself. It appears originally to have applied to the emperor Nero, who had been rumored to have been reincarnated in the emperor Domitian who was persecuting Christians at the time. John even refers to some self-inflicted wounds of Nero's in his description of the Beast.

But to keep Revelation from being an outdated historical curiosity, Christians project the identity of "the Beast" on whichever oppressive tyrant is conveniently available (not without cause, usually). Simple manipulation of the names can produce the appropriate numerical combination, but the number is still only an ID. People are lazy. It's easier to just fear the number than figure out who or what it might stand for.

Some people confuse the "number" of the Beast with the "mark" of the Beast. That's understandable because, unlike the number, the "mark" is never described. So, in the absence of information, people make connections with what information they have. This adds to the superstition about the number.

Ppl think that 666 is a bad number. Truth is, it's all based on reglion. To some ppl 666 is and unlucky number, 666 is a just plain bad number, or 666 is just a number. Yes, to some ppl it IS Satan's number. To some it's not! We'll never really know....

It's the beast's number and we can't have "666" tattoos. Actually, the beasts number is 600, 3 score, and six which equals 666. I don't know if writing it as 6, 6, 6 or 6 6 6 makes a difference cause that's just three 6's, not Six hundred and sixty-six.

Dumb? You should read about this number before you make such a statement. This "dumb" number is the number of what is referred too, as the Beast! It is a number which represents a mark which is placed upon the foreheads or, hands. Without this mark, you will not be able to buy, sell, trade, etc! In other words, it will be a mandate.

However, Christians cannot receive this mark as indeed, it will be a device which will pinpoint the believers and they will be killed!

It is not a bad number it is the number of a man that thinks he is God, in the book of revelation (Revelation 13: 16 - 18). The number 6 is the number of man, because God made man on the six day (Genesis 1: 26 - 31). The number 3 in God's system is God's manifest. Just like the number 2 is the ultimate witness in God's system. I have experienced both in my life. He first does it twice, then 3 times and if you don't get it, then you are in trouble. So, getting back to 666 is the number of man, which is God's manifest. Yes, the AntiChrist (opposite of christ, who loves to copy Jesus) will use this number like it says in the book of revelation but the church will not be here at that time because we will be rapture before this time (thank God).
