I do not despise the Catholic church, but then, I don't consider the Catholic church to be my "mother."

The earliest Christians were nondenominational. The Catholic church was founded later. Perhaps the origins of the church date back to the beginning, but it was not called the Catholic church back then.

Christians didn't even call themselves Christians at the beginning. They were simply followers of Christ.

Anyway, but I don't hate the Catholic church. I don't even mildly despise it. If anything, I have only the utmost respect for the church and its followers. I've simply chosen a different path.

What does it matter though? Protestant or Catholic, we're all Christians.

They split from The Catholic church when they realized that they couldn't worship the way they wanted to. We are all human and we all make choices. That was their choice. Remember King Henry the 8th? He started another religion when the church told him he could not divorce his wife! Religion is either rigid in their beliefs or they change with the times, and that usually has to do with how the head of that particular church handles things. The Catholic church has the pope. I'm not sure who handles other religions...

The Cathlotic church is not the mother of anything...it is just a church and has its beginnings after christianity started...you have to remerber it is based on jesus and he wasnt cathlotic nor where most other christians living at that time....even the country where the cathlotic church started was still serving pagan gods well after jesus was crucified....it did not change until the emperor at that time made it the state religion...

1) We do not despise the Catholic church
2) It is not our mother.

We disagree on some points - but we love Jesus and that is the bottom line to me. We can disagree on some things and that is ok.
Where did this mother thing come from? - that is not a reasonable parallel for church history.

The Bible tells me the heavenly Jerusalem is my mother:

"But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written:
"Be glad, O barren woman,
who bears no children;
break forth and cry aloud,
you who have no labor pains;
because more are the children of the desolate woman
than of her who has a husband." "
Galatians 4:26-27

I don't know what protestants believe. I only know that we all should love everyone and everything for who and what they are and look over the ignorant people and show them love too.
Many Blessing

A lot of Protestants don't accept the notion (i.e. "Protest"-ants) that the Catholic Church is their "Mother". We usually only refer to our fatherly figures, such as our dads and our Father in Heaven.

But there are better verses than that to defend that notion.

I feel ya, but you are taking this verse out of context and applying it where it doesn't belong.
