Anything over 45 minutes each way is in my opinion excessive. It detracts from how much sleep you're able to get, time spent with family and/or friends in the evening and creates undue stress if you're in a metro area with bad traffic. Tampa, Orlando and most other major Florida metro area all have absurd amounts of traffic and poorly designed infrastructure which elongates commuting times.... if your boss or supervisor doesn't deal with the traffic also, they might not be as sympathetic to your effort to drive so far to attend work.
Accidents.... they are everywhere and make commuting worse. I still can't figure out why people have to rubberneck so much instead of carrying on down the highway when the fender bender is on the opposite side!!!

I have a nephew that commutes 1-1/2 hours one way to work. That tacks on an extra 3 hours onto his already very busy day as a single dad of 4.

I have a 90 mile round trip that takes me about 90 minutes each day. But I love my job and get compensated well, so it's worth it to me.
Before you leave your job for a shorter commute, figure out what the other reasons are that you hate your job. A shorter drive can only fix so much. You still have to spend at least 8 hours at the job.

I commute approx 1 hour each way (10 hrs/wk)- on an express commuter train. It's rough sometimes - but I have the luxury of letting someone else do the driving while I read or sleep.

I think once your journey time gets over about 45 minutes it becomes very hard to be motivated. Get a job closer to home or else move home!
My commute is 40-45 minutes by bus or 25 by tube but the tube is double the cost of the bus and not as pleasant and so I choose the bus over tube. Or else I go by bicycle which is only 25 minutes

I commute about 1 hour and 15 minutes per day give or take a little bit. My community is growing and I can not avoid construction which may slow it a bit.
It is a bit of a downer, but I get to unwind and refocus a little bit during that time, and that is not a bad thing.

I do a round trip of 90 miles a day which takes two hours or so. It's expensive and it's a b1tch and I would much prefer to do half that but I have got used to it as I have been doing it for 8 or 9 years.
The only thing that has taken the pain out of it has been buying a decent car. I used to drive old sheds and then I finally saw the light and invested in a decent sporty thing. Now the drive to work is something I enjoy doing - instead of something to be endured.
If you are using public transport then you have my sympathy.

My last permie job was a 90+ minute each way drive - I didn't realise until I left it just how exhausted that made me! I now work 12 minutes from home (15 minutes on a bad day) and although I STILL hate my job - at least it is for the reason that it is a crap job and NOT that I am permanently knackered!!!

i spend 10 hours a week of my life driving to and from work. but since i work nightshift, the roads are usual clear so i can cut it down to about 9 and a half hours a week. i think if i was in the car for more than half an hour one way then i would find another job
