No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
— President George Bush

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The quote is from George Bush Sr, our former president. (8/27/87)

Well, fortunately, Dumbya is not in a position to do anything about it. It offends me in every possible way that he would say something like that. Disbelief in a god is not equal to not being a patriot, or a good American citizen. The man is a pig, and I'll be glad when he's gone. A President, he has no business saying things like that.

"I'm a uniter, not a divider." - President George Bush.

sorry Dude

Deists wrote the Constitution, as well as atheists, agnostics and others. It was most certainly written to respect personal choice, freedom of religion and protect us FROM religion like your own that would attack others with claims of being non patriotic

I served in Army and it's people like you that if did same would see when the bullets fly you either embrace or lose faith and in turn save yourself and then do not advocate war or patriotism if that is what the wars were started over by chicken hawks such as yourself

Bush has destroyed this country and should not be considered a patriot, nor supported, especially by any "christians" since his actions were far from being anything of the Jesus as the Bible portrays

Considering the quote you listed is from Bush, the biggest moron and joke of a president this nation has EVER had, I won't take your question personally. Bush has not a clue what a patriot is in reality. To Bush a patriot is someone who will walk lock step with him in his fascist values and ideas.

Why should we judge anyone by what Bush says?

Bush, IMHO, will be seen by history as one of the worst presidents America has ever had. If not the worst.

He is probably under the delusion that the "under God" bit was put there by the founding fathers, when the reality is that they would have fought tooth and nail to keep it out.

they could desire to be considered voters in the event that they're voters. The word patriot has lost all meaning this present day. The Tea occasion wacko who crashed his airplane right into a federal development theory he replaced right into a patriot.

What a stupid thing to say. Can't you love your country without having religion involved? I am agnostic and I love the USA. I like the freedoms I am given I like being here. I do NOT however feel I need to believe in a god to love my country. Atheists pay taxes like everyone else which pays his salary the idiot. This country was not built on religion but freedom!

Another example of Bush's idiocracy (no, that's not misspelled - he's an idiot). Patriotism is about love of country and has nothing to do with religion. One of the main tennants of the US, is freedom of religion. That means you have a choice in what religion you practice and whether you practice religion or not. Citizenship has nothing to do religion either. In fact our founding fathers ensured we had seperation of church and state so we could maintain our freedom of religion .

Perhaps you should learn a little more about the English language. "God" has zero to do with either "patriot" or "citizen."

You, sir/madame, are a bigot.

No, cleary you don't know how to read the U.S. Constitution. Should Christians be locked up in jail for all the killing done in the name of God or Jesus throughout history? According to your logic yes. Perhaps you should spend less time reading the bible and more time doing some heavy lifting with your mind which has clearly sunk to new lows
