Yes, I understand it. I don't think the majority of them do though because they do not understand the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist either. If they are not receiving the real Jesus in the Eucharist it is hard for them to have the same feelings for Mary as their Mother because technically she isn't their Mother until they have received.
It is a close family bond. I liken it to Joseph of the Old Testament where he was the son of the wife Jacob loved the best and all of the other brothers were jealous of Joseph and Benjamin (Benjamin being like John)

Jesus, when told that His mother and brothers had arrived, was quick to remind the people that "Anyone who does God's will is my brother and sister and mother." (Mark 3:35) Jesus loves ALL of us with a perfect love. To worship Mary is to worship an idol.

Catholics do not adore Mary but treat her as the Mother of Jesus,Who is God Incarnate, and since Jesus is our brother to accept her as our mother in the Family of Faith.(Jesus said to all of us through John"Behold your mother")

To love Jesus Christ, is to love the Blessed Virgin Mary.
"Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of they womb Jesus"

Yes, this makes sense to me. But then I never criticized the Catholics for their devotion to Mary in the first place. ;-)
