You need a kit like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/METRA-99-5716-Taurus-Radio-Install/dp/B0002BEYFE

Detailed instructions are included with the mounting kit, but here are the basics:

Remove the factory climate control/radio module using Ford radio removal keys, and unplug everything on the back. Detach the three climate control switch modules from the back of the factory plate and attach them to the new kit. You'll also need to move the factory retainer brackets from the old unit to the new kit. Wire up the new radio to the harness and speaker wiring and mount the new radio into the kit.

Re-connect all the plugs in the dash cavity to the modules and harnesses that come with the kit. Route the speaker and antenna cables out the back of the dash opening, over to the driver's side door sill, and under the carpeting and rear seat to the trunk. Locate the factory amplifier and tuner module mounted behind the driver's-side wheel well in the trunk. Unplug the output and antenna plugs from the factory amp and connect them to the new harness and cable.

All this is only possible if your Taurus is equipped with rotary-style climate control knobs. If you have digital push-button climate controls, there's no kit available; installing a new radio would require custom mounting.

I have a 99 Taurus, and if yours is the same body style as mine, you have to buy an adapter kit because the radio and a/c is shaped kinda like an egg. You could always go by a sound shop and see if they have an old stock cd player that came out of another car when they installed a new one. That should save you some money, although it would only be a stock cd player. You shouldnt have to buy a new car for a cd player, the car is only 6 years old! What? do people think we are made of money?

go to www.crutchfield.com and they ask for your car info and tell you what fits. If the cd player is 130$ or more, which most are, it will include the parts you need for free if they are available

Go to Best Buy. Or, get a newer car.
