I **LOVE** it that "Rags to Riches" won! First time in 102 years for a filly. That's so neat!! And the first filly EVER to do it in the mile-and-a-half!
Just goes to show it isn't only human females that are just as good at just about everything as their male counterparts. Now we've just seen a horse further prove that!

Rags to Riches all the way!
Curlin's proven himself a lot for me... Honestly I didn't think those big leads over nobodies in the warm up races would stand up to real competition, but he's shown that he can handle a real field in a lot of different circumstances. Still, he's only won 1 of 3 against the fields of decent competition, but I appreciate him more than I did before the Derby. I have to admit he's a good horse now.
If everything goes well, Curlin will most likely run the Breeders, but that's a long time from now... a lot will happen between now and then.
About the Belmont... it was the best Belmont I've seen since I started watching racing. It was a great race all the way to the finish. I was hopping around as the horses ran all the way down the stretch. (Of course I was rooting on Rags to Riches while you were rooting for Curlin, but that's ok) And it was such a meaningful celebration at the end... Rags is the first filly to win the Belmont over a mile and a half... that's some amazing talent for a filly... just think about the fillies who couldn't manage to accomplish the task (Winning Colors, Genuine Risk, Silverbulletday)... those were all amazingly talented fillies and yet it's Rags to Riches who actually accomplishes the task. It's the colts' 'Test of the Champion' and Rags proved herself to be a true champion. She's the closest thing I've seen to Ruffian in my lifetime. It's just such a special day... a perfect end to the day (and I had a pretty awesome day... I won a jumping class at my horse show today!!)
I can't wait to see more of that amazing filly!

I was also routing for Curlin but he can still be proud of the race he won. The filly just did a little better. It was a great and exciting race.

Curlin was awesome! But Rags To Riches was awesome too. She was the first filly to win the Belmont Stakes in 102 years! They were both awesome and and they both tried their hardest.

No. Curlin will not win the Breeders Cup. It was a great race. We had the exacta 20 times. Off to collect.

I'm glad Rags to Riches won. I mean, Curlin's great but we needed a filly to win.

It was an absolute classic and totally took me by surprise, but I was playing the longest shot on the board, Slew's Tizzy. It is a long summer of racing and certainly the top four finishers in the Belmont Stakes will be on track for the BC in NJ, though Rags to Riches may not be taking on the older male/gelded racers in the Classic; opting to stay with the ladies on that day.
This race will be talked about for many years and you were fortunate to see it. Rags to Riches arguably is the best racer in North America, along with being the best 3yo.

Actually, glad to see R to R win! First filly to do it since 1905. A great accomplishment.
