As others have said, newer cars are equipped with daytime running lights (DRLs) that stay on during the day. The issue is visibility.

Several years ago, before DRLs were standard, I read research by AAA that suggested driving with your headlights on during the day decreased your chances of an accident by 24%. Good enough reason for me.

ist lots of new cars when the car is running the headlights come on its a safety device. the idea is if your head lights are on even during the day you can be seen easier, also when it rains by law in many states you are required to have your headlights on, again another safety issue, then there are some people that will drive around in the dark and wonder why they cant see.again safety for the idiots and old farts...

some cars have headlights that do not turn off in the day, so they ride around 24/7 with their headlights on, so people can see them better and because they can't get around it.

Statistically speaking, your chances of being in an accident during the day are lower if your headlights are on. It's an easy thing to do and it makes you safer - why wouldn't you do it?

First thing I always do after I turn my car on is turn on my headlights. It's common courtesy, and that way I get into a habit, and don't forget to on some dark night and pull out into traffic.

The same reason motorcyclists have their lights on continually--visibility. Some auto manufacturers have programmed it so the lights stay on until the ignition has been turned off.

In most states it is the law to have the lights on during rainfall because of visibility that is hindered.

To see and be seen. Most new cars these days have DRLs (daytime running lamps). Canada requires them on vehicles so most car manufacturer have them as standard equipment.
