i curl my ahir..normally its very wavy, kind of frizzy. well very frizzy. I like to curl it. Normally when I do it I only use the curling iron after i let my hair dry naturally from a shower. Is it better to straighten it first then curl? Also, how can i keep the cuurl longer? it only last a few hours if I am lucky

You need the proper products...the key to many of the cool hairstyles you see is the use of theproper products...
to hold the curl and to smoothly straighten the hair...

i realize its difficult when you don't have alot of them to play around with...unfortunately a product that works for one person's wavy hair may not work for another... but the best way to straighten your hair is by applying one of many of the greath ethnic hair care lines thermal spray or 'silicone' spray/serum ( being careful it has NO alcohol in the ingredient list)....two favorites:
kenra's smoothing creme &
schwartzkopf's "magic"

then to 'set' the curl....with most everyone's hair ....you must divide the hair in smaller sections (too big of sections will not allow the hair to reach the curling iron's heat source...)
then lightly spray each section with a styling spray.......a good one is : Shaper . . . {for more feel free to email me..} then wrapping it around the curling iron ASAP...it will sizzle a bit from the spray hitting the iron....
as you unwrap the curl (sliding it off the curling iron with a comb - keeping it in the curl carefully) you must set the curl in the same round curl formnation with 1-2 small silver hair clip...throughout the head should be a number of curls from the iron that are held with clips ..
The trick? : having the clips hold the curls so they will cool-off in the curl formation and using the spray.
Done correctly... there is hardly a head of hair this method won't work on.

I would say to wash it and condition your hair, to make it less frizzy. I would also say just to brush it and let it air dry. Then, before it is completely dry, and still damp. Also, before you curl, use a stay in conditioner to make smoother longer-lasting curls. Then, spray your separate sections, that you will curl, with some aussie maximum hold hair spray. Then, once you are done, spray all of your hair with some more hairspray. I have done that multiple times during the week... It lasts for at least 7 to 8 hours!!!

put a heat protector spray over your hair once it is dry
then using a wide barrel tong run it like a straightener down the hair piece you have chosen to curl . then curl - but when unravelling pull the curler with the hair still attatched at the end just to loosen it after doing this all the way through the hair fix with a hairspray for frizz prone hair -
lasts all day/night even for a couple of days if your lucky

if your hair is wavy after you let it air dry you may want to straighten it first to get a smooth curl .. or you could just blow dry it straight when it is wet .. my hair is pinstraight and i have trouble keeping a curl too .. only keep the curling iron in for three seconds then unravel it .. also put hairspray in your hair before and after

you could also try the curling shampoo and conditioner from herbal essences

AFTER you dry it spray the section you are going to curl with hairspray and then immediately put the curling iron in it while the spray is still wet.
Then leave it alone and go on to the next curl until all are COOLED completely. Then you can brush or comb as you please.

Have you tried freeze hairspray? Get that... It keeps your hair really stiff and keeps the curls in.

you should use hairspray or like a detangling or non-frizz spray because they keep your hair moist and some stop your hair from frizzing. And don't straighten your hair before curling your hair because all it's going to do is cause more FRIZZ!

Don't straighten it first.

Use a good thermal protection spray like http://www.amazon.com/Nexxus-Protexx-Protection-Styling-Spray/dp/B000GCUOV2

It's easier to curl when your hair is slightly oily (i.e. about 2 days without washing), but if you want it clean, use extra conditioner.
