A true calico has large solid, unbroken patches of black, white, and red.

A dilute calico has large, solid, unbroken patches of grayish blue, white, and pale orange.

A tortoiseshell has a black base color mingled with orange marbling.

A tortoiseshell and white has patches of black marbled with orange, and white patches. Torties are often confused with calicos, but they are not the same.

If a cat has any other colorings or markings, it is not a calico or tortie, it's just a cat with colored patches.
Hope this helps!

Officially Calico cats are those that have big solid patches of red and black along with a lot of white sometimes called *high white* A tortoiseshell is a red and black cat with the color being more intermingled and no white. A cat with red and black patches that have stripes within those patches are called brown Patched tabbies or Brown Torbies.

Well you have calico and torti, but you also have the dilute calicos and tortis, which are lighter in color, instead of black you'll see gray (or blue whichever you prefer to call it), and the orange (or red) will be much lighter like a cream color.

no. some may have more of one color or another but calico cats are just multi colored cats.
