Is it the fact that atheists don't believe as they do? The fact that their threats of hell don't work? The fact that they won't play along and pretend something exists without evidence? Or the fact that the atheists actually have evidence to back up what they believe, rather than a piecemeal book of ancient stories and local rules from the middle east? For some reason it looks like the pagans, Hindu's and other religious groups don't have a real problem with atheists.

1. At no time did I say "all Christians", but the vast majority have, in my experience and on here, responded as stated.
2. I assume nothing, simply state what is observed.
3. I have no anger against anyone, I just do not understand the anger shown by proclaimed Christians in these instances.
4. I respect the opinions of others, untill the threats of hell, and circular logic begins. My question attacks noone.
5. Those who claim a positive, ie. a god exists, have the burden of proof. Those who claim a negative, ie. giant aligators in the sewers do NOT exist, do not.
Needlepoint_lace, african beauty, Quella Bella, Beverly B, aaron, and GRANNY OF 5: I'd like to thank you for your wonderful answers. Had there been more good, thinking people such as yourselves at my old church, I would have stayed dispite my lack of belief. People like yourselves are what draws others to a group. You are, unfortunately, the exceptions to the rule.

It's odd, isn't it? I can't see a group of atheists beating up a Christian for the terrible crime of believing on God. A little ribald taunting, perhaps, but actual violence just wouldn't be in character.

But there are places all over where announcing your atheism is a sure route to seeing your own intestines.

Of course, I suppose it's a shock to the system for godders to come face to face with someone who is sure that all their cherished beliefs are silly fantasies. Stack that against people thinking you're going to meet eternal punishment when you die and you get an idea.

But that doesn't alter the fact that hell hath no fury like a delusion identified.

I'm sure that some Christians are angry that atheists exist...but that's silly. Those people are generally immature.

While I'm not angry at atheists, I do have a problem with atheism. Atheism is the belief that there is no God. To know this, one would have to know that no god of any type exists anywhere in reality...something that can't really be known.

Honest atheists, then, aren't atheists at all...they're agnostics. Agnosticism simply means "I don't know if there's a god". That's a much more honest statement than "there is no god"...isn't it?

I am with you on all of that but what evidence do atheists possess that shows that god does not exist? As far as the question goes, it's group think mentality. If you get enough people to believe something crazy, then maybe there's a larger chance it will be true. Plus, it's no fun when simple logic and common sense destroys their view of god.

As a Christian I have no problem with Atheists at all, or any other belief system.
I am not angered by them, why would I be?
What angers me is when someone groups all people as the same, or treats people with disrespect. I also get angry when people say that all Christians are stupid etc.

One more time-someone assumes (and you know what happens when you assume) that ALL Christians are angry with ALL Atheists. I dislike using trite expressions, but some of my best friends are atheists and we actually talk about a lot of things. I dont care if someone either believes or doesnt in the same things I do. It's what makes it an interesting world. You sound just a tad angry yourself.

I don't have anger with Atheists. I don't like it when some Atheists ridicule and belittle Christians, or act like we're all a bunch of idiots, or act so condescending, or refer to God as "our imaginary friend," or post offensive stuff about things that we consider sacred, like "can I take a sponge bath in the blood of Jesus." I have a sense of humor, and I can see the ridiculous in just about everything, but I also don't resort to name calling and demeaning people who believe differently than me.Sometimes it seems like this section brings out the worst in everybody.

If anything our frustration is actually not anger but sadness. I have actually grown to be fond of many of those on this forum who claim Athestic thought. Our goal is not to win the argument, our goal is to be instumental in saving a soul....We came from the same streets,we were not born as Christians. The frustration that you sense may be our own dissapointment with ourselves,in our seeming inability to defend ,articulate and present the Gospel in love.

Less than 5% of the US population is atheist, yet courts waste time on issues on whether a catholic mission should be part of a city seal.

Too often, efforts to separate church and state are aimed at seemingly trivial targets, giving Christians the impression that atheists are conducting a war against religion.

I dislike the insults they hurl (real intelligent).

I don't particularly dislike atheists, don't care what they believe and they have no evidence to back themselves up yet try to state it as fact that they do.

Birds of a feather, pagans, Hindu's and a few other religious groups are in the same boat so why should they have a problem with atheism?

I think the show of disrespect toward anyone's most cherished things tends to cause anger. I think it's best to try to show mutual respect and have a live and let live attitude, if at all possible.
