All religions teach us to respect people following any faith whatsoever. Then why do some fanatics say and insist that only their religion and their master or savior is THE ULTIMATE and the only right one on the earth?

With due respect to all, don't you think that it's their insecurity about their own religion and their inner feeling that their religion is NOT THE BEST & Ultimate?

They've been brainwashed into thinking those things. It is not a fact that "All religions teach us to respect people following any faith whatsoever." In fact, many religions teach the opposite.

Not just fanatics... the dogma of many religions hold their truth is ultimate above all others. Perhaps the original teachings were to help people have confidence in their religion - or perhaps the original teachings were distorted in order to protect the religion from dissolution.

I suspect that it is also tied up with the idea that the individual "ego" is 99.9% involved with itself as the center of all, and getting what it wants. When this ego is sublimated into an "ultimate" undertaking, that quality of "it's all about me" becomes, "it's all about us".

So in a way you could say it's insecurity, or perhaps just a bigger ego trying to establish itself as the center of everything.

sometimes i think it is.
Also, a lot of religions do NOT teach tolerance. Many really push the "anything other than this is a sin and you will go to hell for even THINKING about any other way". So much so that when they grow up and their world experiences do not add up to what they has been stuffed into their brain as "the only way" then they may react by seeing anything else as evil and "it and all involved must go". Otherwise they would have to reject everything that they have been taught, and that is just too much for some people to handle. It is easier to close your mind to and hate something and make it go away by any means necessary, than to open your mind and re-think what you have been stuffed full of.
Anger and rejection are defense mechanisms. I think a lot of that behavior comes from there!

It is from a sense of ego or vanity. The religious fanatic flatters himself by telling himself that God must line up with his own opinions on any given subject. The religious fanatic believes that religious truth can only be revealed one way, the way he has interpreted his own particular scriptures. It doesn't even matter which religion we are talking about -- the fundamentalists and zealots of every faith are cut from the same cloth.

It is actually the fierce possessive instinct that makes some people so intolerant! Your car, for example, is, after you have got used to it, the best car, the ultimate car! You start relating to people using the same make car, better than to others! Your child's school, your home, etc. The difference about religion is, it is intangible, it is, after all, a concept: still it is your religion! As you grow up to higher planes of thought and nobility, you realise the futility of that kind of possessiveness: that leads to maturity of thought as far as views are concerned, on a social plane! For that, level of literacy and general education, and general guidance available in society, have to improve!

Shouldn't the question be why some people DON'T think that their religion is the ULTIMATE religion?

Islam says that Islam is the ONLY way.
Christianity says that Christ is the ONLY way.
Judaism says that Judaism is the ONLY way.
Most others do the same.

Any religion that says "Hey, you're all right!" is illogical and stupid, and you should run away from those types.

Every religion states that it is the one true religion, that all others are false.

I think it is an error to say that all religions teach to be respectful of other religions.

Some religions proselytize, some don't, but they all consider themselves to be the "One True".

I believe you're gravely mistaken. Most religions do not teach us to respect all faiths. Take Islam, for example. Islam preaches to its followers that they should kill the "infidel".
About your main question, it is part of human nature. Every religion teaches that theirs is true, so it's no surprise that the followers would think so too.

i think it has more to do with the fact that people figured out a long time ago that people will Pay A-LOT of money for the belief that they will have something after this life to look froeward to.

and to get the maximum number pf people paying you. you need to make them believe that your way is the ONLY way.
and to actively rectuit new people from a very young and impressionable age.

this is why i have such disdain for people like Benny Hinn and his televangelist peers.

religion i think is a good thing. but people are willing to do great harm in their persuit of money. and all it takes is a few people to make them all look very bad.

YES YOU ARE VERY CORRECT . PEOPLE THINK THAT OUT OF IGNORANCE MAINLY. AND MANY INSIST THAT THIER WAY ALONE LEADS TO GOD BECAUSE THEY ARE INSECURE. THEY JUST CANT SEE THE OTHERS WITH THIER FAITH.
SUCH PEOPLE CONTRADICT THIER OWN RELIGION BY SAYING SUCH THINGS. BECAUSE GOD IS ONE.HE HAS MANY FORMS AND HAS LAID SEVERAL PATHS TO GET CLOSE TO HIM.
KALYUG IS THE AGE OF QUARREL AND HYPOCRISY. SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO FIGHT EVEN IF THAT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.
JUST THINK HOW GOD MUST FEEL WHEN PEOPLE KILL EACH OTHER IN THE NAME OF RELIGION OR HURT THE RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS OF OTHERS WHILE CLAIMING THAT THIER GOD IS THE TRUTH AND THE OTHER'S GOD IS FALSE( EVEN THOUGH THE GOD IS ONE AND THE SAME)
IN YA I HAVE OBSERVED THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE TOO POLITICAL. EVEN THE PROTESTANT CHRISTIANS AND CATHOLICS FIGHT AMONG THEMSELVES. MANY HINDUS CRITICISE AND SCORN THE WAY OF OTHERS BY SAYING THAT THE CHRISTIAN CONCEPT IS WRONG BECAUSE HEAVEN IS MATERIAL OR THAT ANOTHER PERSON IS WRONG BECAUSE HE IS NOT A DEVOTEE BUT BELIEVES IN MERGING WITH THE BHRAHMN OR THAT THIS PERSON IS SILLY BECAUSE HE WORSHIPS EVEN THE MOPPERS IN HIS GURU'S TEMPLE.
THIER HAVE BEEN DAYS WHERE PEOPLE HAVE KILLED OTHERS IN THE NAME OF RELIGION. THOSE WHO RIDICULE OTHERS RELIGION ARE BEING PLAINLY HYPOCRITICAL. THEY CLAIM TO BE BELIEVERS BUT REFUSE TO BELIEVE IN GOD AS HE IS.THEY SIMPLY REFUSE TO ACCEPT HIS PERFECT CREATION AS IT IS.

ALL RELIGIONS SAY THAT GOD IS ONEAND NONE TALKS ABOUT JEERING AT THE OTHERS RELIGION. PERHAPS PEOPLE TEND TO BE MORE POLITICAL AND LESS SPIRITUAL.
