Ok well like lots of kids in the summer, I want to make some money. But I am not old enough to get a part job somewhere. My Catholic School does a Summer Tutoring Program. It is available to any boys and girls of any school (1st to 8th grade) and goes every Monday to Friday for about 8 hours a day from June 25 to August 3 (our summer vacation is from June 24 to August 6). That means I will be at school tutoring 27 of my 42 days of summer break (we get July 3-5 off). That's about 216 hours of my summer. I get paid $6 an hour (I know it's below minimum). After doing the math, I can make $1,296 in this short summer. Since you have to meet certain criteria to be eligible to tutor, all my closest friends will not be doing this. Not a lot of people I know or hang out with will be doing this. But another major downside to this is we will have to wear our school uniforms to the tutoring sessions. So that means over half the summer, I will have to wear my school uniform. The

students recieving the tutoring do not have to wear uniforms. And the teachers can wear anything they want (within reason). Personally, I think this is unfair. I was planning on just going over to one my friends' houses after tutoring to hang out and relax after a long day, but I don't know if I really want to go if I will be the only one there in my school uniform (in the summer!!!). So, can they do this? Is it fair? Is it worth it? What should I do?

The funny thing about working for someone else is that they have the right to tell you what your uniform needs to be. If you want to do this job, wear your uniform.
Think of it this way, you are going to be a role model for the other kids and you are going to be someone they look up to. If you don't feel you should follow the rules, you won't be a good role model.
I know that is not the answer you want, but wearing your uniform is the right thing to do - without complaint - if you want the job.

If I were you I would wear my school uniform to this job. In most of the job now a days you have to wear a uniform. Once you done tutoring then you can change out of the uniform. That is what I would do. I am really happy that you are working during the summer. This way you can put some of the money away for college or university. So does this help you out at all?

In effect, you represent the "best of the best" that your school has to offer. And this may be the reason they prefer their tutors to wear their uniforms.
You will be easier to recognize in case one of the students needs help or directions.
You will be employed by the school and you will be getting some monetary compensation for your time.
It's up to you to make a mature decision as to whether you are willing to comply with the school's rules and be a tutor on their terms of dress code. Or if you like, you could work somewhere else for the summer.
By the way, you may end up wearing a uniform if you choose another job. (ie, fast food, janitorial, etc.)

Yes it's valued at it. You shall be serving to pupils that relatively want your support. If you'll be able to support one scholar GET what she or he did not get earlier than you defined then that make you very distinct, that is whatever you'll be able to be happy with your self for, as for dressed in the uniform, I suppose for the academics and pupils eye it distinguishes you from them. The pupils appreciate you as a train as do the academics. $6.00 in step with hour isn't under minimal salary, it is approximately .25 cents above. I wish you do not allow the uniform stand in the best way of you serving to a fellow scholar. You are younger and there shall be extra summers. Thank you for being so distinct.

I do agree that this is quite unfair, but its not like you can change the rules. But think about it, is it really that big of a deal? For over 1,000 dollars this summer, i think you can sacifice your clothing. However. if you are THAT concerned about it just dont work as much. Instead of half the summer try a third. But if I was you, TAKE THE MONEY, ITS NOT AS BAD AS YOU ARE MAKING IT SEEM

I think it would be best to wear your school uniform if you want to set a good example for the others that you will be tutoring.

Well, I know at Catholic Schools they go by the diocese's standards so if thats what they want that's what they get, haha I know it may be unfair but just bring a change of clothes to go out afterwards.

If that's the rule...that's the rule.
In the world of employment...the employer gets to call the shots. They are paying you, so they get to tell you to wear your uniform. You get the money..so deal with it. It's a good lesson for later in life.
