I have 2 Italian Greyhounds who are puppy pad trained to use the bathroom in a certain area of the house. I only had to show my older dog (6 months) the area once or twice and she is fine with the process, but my younger one (4 months old) is really having a tough time with the concept. Any hints for housetraining using puppy pads?

Yeah. They aren't CATS. Lose the pads, get some crates and housebreak them properly outside.

Many 4-month old puppies are not completely housetrained, and small breeds often take longer than large ones. As with children, bowel training is usually easier than bladder training.

Confine your puppy to a small crate when you can't watch her. She won't go there, because dogs do not like to mess up their sleeping area (that's why you don't want to use a large crate--she will just use one end and sleep in the other). When you take her out of the small crate, carry her straight to the "potty area" and praise her/give her a treat when she goes, which she will need to do right after she gets out of the crate and starts moving around. Once she pees/poops, she can have the run of the house for a while, but keep an eye on her and whisk her back there you see her sniffing and squatting. With my young dogs, I say the same word ("sniff") every time they eliminate, and pretty soon it becomes a "command"--this is useful if you take your dogs somewhere and want them to use a new area, or if you want them to hurry up.

IG's are difficult to residence damage however do not give up. It took me a yr to finally have success. I feel their little bladder just isn't in manipulate except their older. To find an IG staff and ask for some pointers. Make certain to present plenty of reward when she does "go " if you end up outside. They seem to get scared while you use a deep voice. You could perpetually take her to a puppy training class- PetSmart offers them. That would get her into the habit of listening to you. Keep in mind that dogs must be taught a further language and opt for up on clues when they reside with persons.Just right success
