I'll go first. My favorite is, "If you don't believe in God, why would you care what happens to your children?"

That would be me. I'm a skeptic and cynic. I don't believe in anything. There are things I know and things I don't know. Belief has nothing to do with it. I know there is absolutely no proof for the existence of any deity. I know that the process of evolution best explains the diversity of life on Earth. I don't know what women think but I know I like the way they smell right after a shower.

OK, now your favorite is now mine, as I hadn't seen that one before.

Sorry, I can't remember the exact wording but it was something about how, without a belief in the Sky Bully, how we feel any love.

I did see one really good question (I may have even starred it), I mean a sincere one, about what we do in emergencies, or when we want or need something or are scared.

I don't mean the person believed in prayer rather than the fire extinguisher -- but she routinely said little prayers, and honestly wondered what we do in the kinds of situations where she'd think a little prayer.

I say it was sincere, because a) the question was worded respectfully, not accusitorily (if that's a word), and she actually chose one of the atheist answers, rather than (as they so often do) a "they're worthless sacks o' manure" answers.

I thought it was cool, and one of the good things that could happen more on this site, if more people consistently reported sludge, and Yahoo more consistently removed it.

I mean, it was a genuine curiosity -- this is what I do, what do you do in similar situations?

It's truly amazing to me that these so-called "good, god-fearing" people believe that, if they DIDN'T have a wrathful egomaniac watching over them, they wouldn't care about their children, and would rape and murder everyone they saw.

"Why do you care what happens in the world?" is another.

"Because suffering SUCKS, you freak! I don't need a bloodthirsty control-freak to tell me that."

I did have a friend tell me he didn't think he'd get up in the morning if he didn't think there was a god.

"What's the point?"

I firmly believe he WOULD get up in the morning.

It's as hard for me to understand this way of thinking -- that if it weren't for terror of burning forever from their LOVING god, they actually think they would be monsters -- as it is for them to understand me.

I mean, come ON -- I don't even have kids and that one you give offends me.

Have you considered doing a search for that phrase on this site?

I bet you'd find a lot more howlers.

It would make an interesting collection: What believers really believe about themselves.

Except for the terror inspired from the Megalomaniac in the Sky, they really think they'd be horrific brutes, don't they?

OK. Funny question, by the way:

"If you don't believe in (our) God, then you're a heathen and we must convert you right away!" - care of European Christian missionaries to Africa and South America

"If you don't believe in God, then we might as well all run around killing and looting and raping each other."

Or, reverse:

"No truly God-fearing person would be gay."

"Since I believe in God, I have no reason to fear global warming. God is going to come and destroy the earth anyway."

how do you explain the complexities of the human eye? Seems to come up a lot.

Or

If you don't believe in God, what happens when you die. If you think nothing happens, thenit is no wonder that you are all a sad, miserable depressed bunch of people.
