Just as Congress is about to vote on a bill that would require federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, something has me tempted to join the ranks of those loony tunes who see conspiracies lurking around every corner.

There is no conspirarcy in stem cell research. it is a medical advancement that seeks to make use of cells that would otherwise be discarded after a time. There is no secret plot to kill babies here or some sort of abortion scam.

What conspiracies? Nobody's accusing anybody of having "baby factories" to produce embryonic stem cells, and nobody wants that. It's just that, as sure as God made little green apples, if there's big money attached, eventually somebody with more greed than ethics is going to make the leap at some point. It's always been true of all human endeavors. Mr. Bush just wants to be careful about dangling the bait until the science is a little farther along, and it's perfectly reasonable to have the same general view but think the time to loosen controls is at a different stage. This should not be a polarizing issue but one of honest disagreement.

Whenever you are listening to politicians or advocate of stem cell research in all forms, you are never getting the whole truth. Read up on the scientific research of stem cell and then draw your own conclusions. When ever you are in the Medical field you ask a Doctor or a Scientist for advice not Congress and all the politicians who bow to the influence of money. Remember that 1/2 of a truth is a WHOLE lie.

I am not quite sure I understand your question.

Anyhow, stem cell research should be pursued with all we have. The advances in medicine and treatments for diseases could be amazing.

Just for all you who think saving lives with stem cells is devaluing life......stems cells can also be found in umbilical cords. So no baby really has to die. But if a mother is going to kill her child (we can't really stop her) then why shouldn't we try to use that for the good and try to save another life?

welcome to the club.
it's not about research, it's about devaluing human life a little bit more. the more worthless people become the easier it is to kill them. it's pushed by the abortion industry, and therefore, the eugenics movement.
adult and cord blood stemcells are available, and have saved lives, embryonic stemcells have never been successfully used.
