I clean my bike chain pretty much weekly. When I do this I always have a bunch of dirty rags. I hate putting them in the washer because they always leave a mess, and the washer is new. Any ideas on how I can clean them before they go into the washer?

use Dawn dishwashing liquid, it takes out a lot of the grease
just wipe down the inside of the washer tub after the cycle is over

I only wash my grease rags twice, and then I throw them out

I clean my oily/greasy rags by soaking them in bucket with lots of dish washing soap. This will loosen and dissolve most of the worst oil.
Then wash them as usual in clothes washer. This will keep from messing up your washer.
Or the other way, as previous suggestion is go to a Laundromat and mess up their washers. Not the polite thing to do. But I have done it before.

Clean them at the laundry mat.
