I have tried switching the speakers to the other door and still the left side has distortion, and the transformers on the speakers are the pre-amp according to a car radio guru

I recently purchased a Infinity CD player out of a 1992 Plymouth Sundance in the junkyard. Excellent looking CD player....installed it in my Sundance and i get the same problem, except no sound out of the left front door speaker. I do believe the Amp is built into the side of the CD player itself, it was hot to the touch! You will notice one side of the CD player looks different than the other. I also have Alpine front speakers and stock rear speakers....i'll figure something out!

What you found on the door speaker isn't a pre-amp; it's the amp. There are no separate amplifiers besides the ones attached to the speakers.

maybe one of the wires is not on right....or it can also be the balance on your head unit meaning its to much to the right or left.
