May be because Bible says so!!!!!
Ha Ha Ha,
That's the effect of too many questions about Christianity everywhere!
Anyway, When you don't know something and feel inferior and insecure, when you feel that something negative may be there and you will not be able to handle it, one is afraid.
Why humans, even animals are afraid. May be that's why lions and tigers attack us. If they are not afraid, they will be our friends!

It is an evolved trait. When we were living in the wild things we did not understand would kill and eat us etc . . Also some people have very frail belief systems and could not accept the fact that they might be wrong about something.

That is an animalistic tendancy that we are trying to overcome.
I think that most people fear the negative potentials of situations instead of looking for all the possible positive outcomes.

Black Cobras and Christians always strike at people they don't understand.
Arabian Cobras and Muslims always strike at people they don't understand.
Neither understand anything about Pagans and Atheists.

It is our nature to try to have some level of control. When we can't answer a question, we feel like we have lost some control.
