If a choice is allegedly given by a deity, but information is deliberately withheld by said deity, how can that choice be construed as "Free Will?"

If said deity is omniscient, said deity will, of course, know the level of information required for any entity to make a decision regarding this alleged choice, and in choosing what not to reveal is, indeed, making the decision for the person, thus contrary to the concept of "Free Will."

I’d contend, to clarify, that with the deliberate withholding of information by a deity there is a complete absence of free will. If a god expects you to make choices but withholds data, said god, not you, is making the choices....and an omniscient god *knows* this.

I don't know how I could be more specific with the question, sorry dude.

Obviously, if you believe that there is no free will, then the answer is "it's not, because there is no free will."

Also, if a god is omniscient, we know what said god knows...s/he knows EVERYTHING.

I'm not an atheist, and this question is not about my decisions. You're welcome to the two points, please play again.

You need only read the questions of many atheists here to know exactly what it would take for them to believe in god. A god that wishes to be believed in could know that, too, and allow them to make an informed choice.

My thanks, by the way, to those that answered without attacking the asker!

Obviously it isn't. Btw technically god couldn't blame us from doing evil, because by restricting us information he destroys our ability to make the right choice.

Are you saying that nothing in this life is your fault? Do you not believe that you have choices in this life?

We all have choices, but I am begining to think there is a connection to questions like this and our societies general lack of personal accountability.

You always have choices and you are accountable for those choices. If you don't think you have enough information to make a good decision, about anything, then you should keep looking for the information that will enable you to make the best choice.

Your choice so far is obviously atheism and that's ok.

I don't think withholding information is tantamount to making a decision for someone. There are some things that, to truly be known, must be discovered on our own. Most of us were told as kids that "drugs are bad", or "addiction is very powerful", which we only knew hypothetically and abstractly until we experienced them firsthand, or really saw or experienced the consequences ourselves or what happened to our friends. To be TOLD something, is not always to really KNOW something. To discover everything we can before making our decisions is our own responsibility that shouldn't be handed to us on a platter. I would argue that's exactly what a certain deity gave us our magnificent brains for in the first place.

To rely only on what we're told by someone else is the mistake of those who believe everything they're told on certain "fair and balanced" TV shows. Its also the prerequisite mistake necessary to create a brainwashed Brave New World

no matter what info is held back, there is still free will, however the right choice may not be made due to the lack of knowing the information because you did make the decision on the basis of the info that was provided.

That is the most convoluted logic I've come across here in over two weeks. What do you perceive as being held back from humans?Knowing, but not interfering with our decisions is true freewill for humans. We have the information on life and the future as well. What we choose to make of it is up to each and every individual.

Your getting free will and command mixed up we have a free will to choose, God commands us to be holy because he is holy, he created us with a free will but it was not intended for us to choose the wrong path but the right one, who ever wants to live in sin for the rest of their lives, doing things that only cause pain and suffering, dont you realize when some big tradgedy happens in our world poeple start asking why did God let this happen, people let it happen, they dont have God in their lives and dont know how they should live.

It doesn't matter if I have all of the information or not, I still have to decide. Yes, information, or lack there of can make a difference, I still must decide. Even with the best information, people make bad choices.

The 66 books of the Bible have been published for a long time now and lots of organizations will give you one for free if you ask, so no information has been withheld.
