I try to do this in my answers. I do think that the most important part is figuring out what the verse means to YOU! We all have different needs and we are all on a different level in our walk so we must search our hearts sincerely for the meaning of God's word to us!!!

Some Christians do explain, and some feel that the work speaks for itself. It depends on the context.
Why don't you ask "So what does that mean to you" the next time you have someone just quoting something.

I agree with you about quoting and not saying what it means or what it means to that person. I am a Christian and my mother is constantly quoting scripture at me. I love the scripture but hate being quoted to. I would rather be talked to about god in a persons own words. Don't get me wrong, I love Jesus, I read the bible and memorize scripture but I agree with you.

Personally, I try to do just that
Peace be with you :)
* lol....oftentimes when we are asked to give specific quotes, I have to go to the Bible to the place my thought was with and then return and write it down because, I, unlike a few of my kids and my older brothers, CANNOT memorize numbers well, lol my thorn in the flesh, I guess...keeps me even more humbler then everything else, lol :)
* LOL If nothing else, you all are sending me to the Bible so much I should thank you!!! :)

I usually try to do that. First I explain what I think it means and then back it up with the Bible reference.

Heh. In my experience, Christianity is not particularly compatible with Biblical literacy.
(In other words, the quote posters tend to NOT KNOW what the quote means.)

Many of the scriptures we quote are cut and dry (at least when I do). They are self explanatory. There isn't always a need to explain them.

I know you just want to rant, but I'll treat this like a legitimate question. Did you ever think that they feel that John may have said it better than they feel they can?

Would it be a good idea for all of us to Pray and ask Almighty God for the correct understandind. This way we wouldn't be getting each others opinions.
