The hanging bell idea is a good one, but something that might work even better is one of those remote doorbells. Put the doorbell button at the back door and rig it with a piece of cardboard or plywood so the dog has a bigger target than the little button, then put the bell speaker in the room where you usually hang out.

Every time you let the dog out, ring the bell before opening the door. You can even do some training sessions where you show the dog that "ding" = door opens. The dog will start to associate the doorbell with the door opening and getting to go outside. Next you teach her to hit the pad herself. Try to just get her worked up by pointing at it or hiding a treat behind it so she hits it herself, but if that doesn't work you can always put her paw on it for her. And every time she pushes and it dings, the door opens.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMT5N

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

My dog does this and I find it works very well:

Find a cat toy that hangs from a leather strap on a doorknob. Ours is a rubber ball with a bell in it. Continue checking on your dog, and if she needs to go, ring the bell on the door a couple times, then open the door to let her out. She will begin to associate the bell ringing with the door opening and going outside. Continue to ring the bell each time the door is opened for about 2 weeks and hopefully if all goes well (like with my dog), she'll walk up, either hit the bell with her paw or walk behind it and let it drop, ringing the bell against the door, alerting us that she want's to go outside.

Try it, as long as shes still a puppy and isnt stubborn, she should catch right on.

You could put a bell on a string on the doorknob. Teach her that when she rings it, she is going outside. So have her tap it with her nose, praise her and let her outside. That's what my friend had to do for her dog too, because he would let them know he had to go by scratching the paint off the door! But they say it works great and the paint is staying where it belongs.

In my private enjoy, we now have a puppy run on the part of our condominium and just about you need to take your puppy external ever hour or so till they move potty. When they do (move potty), make a tremendous deal approximately it (tons of affection and treats). Soon they are going to be ready by way of the door/ scratch the door to move out. Some puppies study faster than others. My rescue puppy figured it out lovely rapid, however my dog who's now five mo. nonetheless does not appreciate. I realize additionally plenty of folks set up a doggie door for his or her puppies too, in order that probably an choice so they may be able to move out every time they desire.

Hi, I was interested in traing my dog the same way you were.

There is lots of great information you can find on the internet or by talking to people who have had the same questions in the past.

I have had exeptional results with this dog traing program (see sources).

It may talk quite a bit of effort but it will be well worth it to have a well trained dog!

Good luck and don't give up!

my friend attatched a bell to the door near the bottom of the door. he taught his puppy to scratch at the bell or paw at it when she needed out, maybe you should try something like that. before you take her out take her paw and make her jingle the bell, everytime. eventually, i believe she will get the point and start ringing the bell when she wants to go out. just remember to praise her, give her treats etc. when she does the right thing.

I don't know if you're punishing her for that, but you probably should. It might help her to know that she needs to come to you when she needs to go outside. My dogs have always come to me to ask if I can't see them by the door.

You might also just need to keep a better eye on your dog. Most house dogs are social creatures who like to be in the company of humans. If she disappears into another room for a while, that's probably a pretty good sign that you need to go check on her.

You could also try blocking the door to the room that she goes into. Get a pet gate of some kind so that you can keep an eye on her and if she wants to get through the gate, that might be a good sign she needs to go out.

Attatch a rope with a little bell on it to the door handle. When you meet her at the door to let her out, somehow get her to pull on the rope with her mouth so the bell jingles. When she gets it right give her a treat and let her out. Just keep repeating this until she learns. Dogs learn pretty quickly.

Ok, so New idea! When you notice her at the door, call her to you. Once she sits at your feet, give her a treat and lead her to the door and let her out. This way she will learn that she needs to come to you first before going out.
