I've been taking classes for gymnastics and is currently really sore in my legs and arms. I'm used to being sore becuase i'm involved in several sports and such, but have avoided stretching when i'm sore. Does stretching when one is sore help at all or does it just make it worse? Please let me know. Thanks

you need to rest for a few days and not do stretches or any gymnastics. Your body is telling you that it needs rest.

Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion.

Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body. One tip for athletes: it is healthier to drink a sports drink or water than fruit juice, soda, coffee, or milk during competition or active training periods.

500mg of calcium and magnesium, taken twice daily, can help with diminishing the pain.

Advil soft gel capsules will help relieve the pain. Take them four times daily.

It depends on the cause of the soreness. You wouldn't want to stretch a sprain or a pulled or torn muscle, for example.
When muscles ache after a workout, it's because they were flooded with lactic acid, which acts as a minor toxin. You can minimalize this effect by hydrating well after working out, cooling down instead of stopping suddenly, stretching after a workout, and taking an anti-inflammatory like Motrin. Then, those muscles need to rest. Once the soreness and stiffness is mostly gone you can return to working out again, but working out is more complex than it seems. It's worthwhile to go to the library and read some books on workout routines (avoid the magazines, they just want to sell you supplements).
Many people exercise the upper body one day and the lower body the next. Cardio exercises the whole body and can be done every day (be careful about running every day, as bad shoes can really mess you up).
If the soreness persists, discontinue exercising for a couple of weeks.

Calcium, Tylenol and about three days of time. Good luck. I have back problems so I take muscle relaxers which help me. It is simply a build-up of lactic acid which will disperse in a few days. Try to do some warm-up exercises before exercising. You can find tips on warm-up exercises by Googling the question. Good luck.

wells its best to stretch before and after ...streching after can help reduce soreness from a workout...but streching before is vital to warming up the muscles...there is a product called glutamine which is sold in many stores ( pharmacies..even walmart). glutamine is found naturally in the body and helps repair and reduce muscle soreness...it is usually found in powder form..they may even make capsules now..you take the recommended dosage about an hour before you workout and it should help alot with the soreness...if u do not want to try anything like this I would suggest you continue stretching before and after and also between sets on your workouts..hope this helps.. much luck

YES. Give creatine a try. It really helps take away the soreness. It also helps with building muscle.

stretching does help you should stretch before and after you work out. and you your still sore take a tylenol or soak in epsin salt (with hot water). hope this helps good luck!

ibuprofen & Icy Hot. Drink plenty of water too to avoid cramped muscles.
