While I've certainly encountered my share of anti-Catholic sentiment, I've visited many Protestant churches, and can say that most Protestants don't hate Catholics. In fact, some of them are quite supportive. The Catholic haters are only a minority, thankfully. But that minority can be rather vocal, and it gives the false illusion that all Protestants are anti-Catholic.

I don't think hate is the right word. We don't agree with a lot of things the Catholics do, for various reasons. I know that many people in my church have converted from the Catholic faith. They would be able to answer your question better than someone who never was one. However, I still don't agree with how they worship, and other things.
God does not care about denominations. He is a God who cares about a personal relationship with Him. I believe there are true believers in the protestant faith as well as the catholic faith. We don't know each of them by heart. Only our Father in Heaven can see into one's heart to know if they are His or not.
I am a Christian. Christians come from many denominations in the church. If you are a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, then you belong to Him.
Jesus said "I know My sheep, and My sheep know My voice."

Not all protestants hate catholics and only those who are misinformed do. As Catholics we should know what our church teaches so we can clear up misunderstandings when we are given the chance. There are also former catholics and born again Christians who hate catholics and this is because of many misconceptions they receive from those who converted them. When they get to know the Catholic faith (like Scott Hahn) they realize how beautiful our faith is and how whole it is and they convert to Catholicism!

It's a religious thing...Protestants glorify the empty cross while Catholics glorify the crucifixion. I believe that both religious principles are hypocritical to the other. Protestants say they are worshiping Jesus, and blame Catholics for worshiping Mary. When in reality, neither is reminding themselves of the WHOLE picture. I believe Jesus would say to the Protestants, "You worship the empty cross." To the Catholics, he would say, "You worship my death." To both of them together, he would say, "Here I am."

Christened Catholic...raised Christian...and now, I'm set free.

Religion is a box. In a box, you are not fully free to love.

John 15:12
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

A rich history of persecution and the non-biblical religion of Catholicism is what caused my grandmother to leave the Catholic Church. Also, when she needed God, she did not find Him at the Church, but by reading the Holy Bible (something which was not recommended by the Catholic Church for centuries), she got to know Him. She then decided to find a church that Remembered the Sabbath day, and showed love for Jesus by keeping all of His commandments, instead of the traditions of man.
I don't hate Catholics, and I belong to a church that is a true protestant in that we don't even honor the day that was set aside as a holy day some 300+ years after Christ went to heaven by the Holy Roman Empire. There are many previously Catholic converts in my church. I asked some of them what helped them make the decision...basically they read the Bible and could not find the answers to their questions from their clergy....

That is mostly in Ireland. Religious war. I don't know of any protestant that hates catholics. They are both man made religion and they are both mislead. Christianity is the only way to Jesus Christ.

I don't believe your question is as thought-out as you think it is. What do you base this on?

To kaliko.....protestants and catholics ARE christians, hon.

And as for Northern Ireland....

"In Northern Ireland, "the troubles" are partly rooted in Catholic/Protestant differences, partly in political allegiances, and probably partly in hatreds that go back so far that the exact reason is lost in the mists of time."

well religion is just another form of politics. and if you do your history study of what caused some of the hatred in ireland you will see. that it boils down to politics. most of the catholics from way back when was behind one political party or clan, and most protestants from way back when were behind another political party or clan. so they just transfered the disagreement to religion. the same goes with why do the sunni's hate the shi'ites? they both believe in mohammed dont they? it all boils down to human politics.

As a Protestant, i do NOT hate catholics. I argue their sacraments, idol worship and concept of WHO absolves sin.

I don't know why some people hate others just because of their beliefs. And for the record I don't hate anyone.I may not always agree with others but they have their right to their own opinion.
