I wouldn't recommend diving directly into reading about Cardio and Neurology, though I have to accept, it really is fascinating. Get a general idea about the basics first.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry go a long way. These form the basis for all further studies. Besides, you would unterstand the higher topics better.
Physiology is very interesting and is easy to read and understand. Try reading books like Textbook of medical physiology by Arthur Guyton.
And, theres always the internet.
Goodluck!
Cheers!

Get High Yield Neuroanatomy (what ever the latest edition is) for neuroscience. I don't know much about cardiovascular surgery so can't help you there but you might like Medical Physiology by Linda Costanzo. It is important to understand cardiovascular physiology before you try to learn about cardiovascular surgery. I am assuming that you are way ahead of your class and have knowledge of basic biology. Both books are fairly understandable. Have fun doing your super genious thing.

Unless you are a genious, I think you are aiming too high for now. I think most of these are still in print or available at the library: Microbe Hunters by Paul deKruif; Rats Lice and History by Hans Zinnser; Century of the Surgeon by Jeurgen Thorvald (I think). More recently, Wendy Moore wrote an interesting bio of early surgeon John Hunter, called the Knife Man. These are books on medical history and how our knowledge was expanded by these pioneers.

I Agree, Good Basic Knowledge First, Many Good Books, May I Suggest a Netter's for Anatomy, a Guyton for Physiology, a Kuby for Immunology. Perhaps a Cecil's for Many Conditions.
