Make sure you do use a local agent / broker.

If you are healthly - a Health Savings Account (HSA) qualified plan might work very well for you. I have linked you to our website that has a lot of information on it regarding HSA's and plans that work well for the self employed.

Keep in mind; individual plans are a bit different than your traditional group benefits. Pay attention to what you are getting and make sure you use a local agent or broker to help explain all the plans and thier differences to you.

There’s a new company offering low cost individual health plans in Texas for young, reasonably healthy people, and is a great health insurance solution for the self employed. You buy into a plan at a super low cost with fixed benefits that will cover the typical activities of a healthy person. Then, if something catastrophic happens, you have the option to get additional levels of coverage, even AFTER the event. You’d have to look into it for more details, but that was the gist. Even if you’re not in Texas, they’ll be offering plans in additional states soon. Plus, they’re backed by a traditional insurance company that’s been around for over 70 years, so even though they’re new on the scene, they have a solid reputation behind them. Go see a local insurance broker - especially one you have an existing relationship with - they'll shop the companies and show you the best deal for you. It's also often cheaper to do it that way because they can try to get you a small business rate - as opposed to you calling off the street and asking "How much for a policy?"

You need to go to a local, independent agent for quotes in YOUR AREA. Not all companies write policies in all states.

If you buy off the internet, you're likely NOT buying an insurance product, or there might be no providers within 300 miles of you.

Best off sticking to the local guy.
