In the roasting process a certain amount of caffeine is burned off. That's true with all coffees. If you pull the roast early the less caffeine is burned off. The reason espresso has less caffeine is because the coffee is packed tightly, the water is pushed quickly through under pressure, and it is such a dark roast that it has the least caffeine to start with. Strength of coffee flavor in order - Strength of caffeine in reverse order: Blond Roast - Light Blonde/Brown Half-City Roast - Light Brown City Roast - Light-Medium Brown Full City Roast - Medium Brown Vienna Roast - Medium-Dark Brown Light French Roast - Dark Brown French Roast - Dark Brown Espresso Roast - Deep Brown Decaf Coffee: 3-5mg, Tea: 75mg, Cola/Soda: 75-85, Reg. Coffee: 95-110mg; Robusta Coffee: 105-115mg.

I second that light roast has more caffeine! Work with Alterra coffee roasters, I think the longer its roasted, the darker it is and the less caffeine it will have.

bull!
I sell and distribute Bolivian coffee at Amazon, the roasting is totally separated from the caffeine content of the bean.
Not because you roast the bean longer you are going to get a high caffeine content coffee!!!
Colombian coffees are not organic, no Colombian coffee will have a "organic tag" on it period!!!
Depends of the soil, kind of bean , Arabica or Robusta for the ammount of caffeine in the bean, shade- grown or not, etc
Arabica has more caffeine than Robusta , that is the kind of coffe that Starbucks uses.

So the degree of roasting the coffee beans is indicative of its caffeine content? Interesting concept, but it falls flat.
