Conformation (breed) showing is to decide on breeding stock, something that can't 9shouldn't)be done with a mix.

As for performance events such as rally, obedience, agility do have some classes taht a mix can go in although AKC hasn't opened classes to mixes as of yet. UKC (United Kennel Club, 4-H and a few other organizations do hold performance shows in which mixes can compete. Also there are also fun matches that mixes can attend as well.

Don't feel sorry for show dogs..most have a wonderful life..they get to travel, they get to strut theri stuff, they get lots of attention and yes they do get ot play and run just like any other dog. Most show dogs are every bit as much of a family member/pet as pet only dogs.

My own show Danes, play in mud, have a ton of toys, go out and play in the yard, go camping, do every thing and more then the average family dog. They sleep on our bed at night too.

As far as fair..yes since most shows are to determine breed standard of purebreds.

The purpose of dog shows is to compete against the ideal standard for a breed. Some mixed breeds can show. They are given an ID number. As breed classes are mainly for canines going to the breeding arena, mixed breeds don't really need to do this. Also, no fixed animals can show in breed classes. For obedience, agility, and tracking, a mixed breed has more equal footing and it can be a fun and rewarding experience. There are also Good Dog certificates. Go to AKC.org for more info.

Mixed breed dogs have no know standards. There are no set guidelines, requirements or rules governing mutts.

Yes I think it fair. Mutts have no business in a show ring.

There are dog shows for mixed breeds but it is not anything thing close to the standards of pure breed competitions of dogs in an AKC function.

There are competitions in the best dressed, ugliest, agility but it does not compare to AKC functions.

Pure breed functions are looking for the best of the best in many different areas and a mutt wouldn't have a chance cause they are mixed.

They don't allow junk dogs in the show ring. They have to be pure breed & meet strict requirements. Requirements that a mutt just simply does not & can not meet.

Because there has been no standards set for a mixed breed. What can it be compared to and how can it be judge against other mixed breed since no two are alike. How could you judge a mutt? Should a judge just pick the one he/she thinks is cutest? I do not think that would be very fair.
I believe it is fair because a lot of effort and time went into producing the pure bred dogs we have today so there are standards to hold them to and an example to judge them by.

Mix breed dogs are only exculded from conformation shows but there are obedience trials, rally trials, agility trials, and other activities that they can be shown in.

There are fun shows all over that will allow mixed breed dogs. You just have to find the right person to contact in your area. A lot of dog clubs will have training courses where all dogs are welcome and will sometimes have fun meets at the end. As to why mix breeds aren't allowed in dog shows it is because they are usually AKC (american kennel club) affiliated and if the dog is not a breed they recognize they are not allowed in. Try to locate a club in your area and contact them for more information on open fun shows and the like. They should be able to help you. Also if they were to allow say Labradoodles in then they would have to start letting many other mixed breeds in and they shows would be way too large. As it is the AKC recognizes about 160 breeds as it is. To allow any mixed breed in and to be registered would go against their (the AKC's) ideals of preserving the purebred dog. I understand why you ask this question as it is frustrating for those of us who have mixed breeds--I have one myself--but mixed breeds have no real standards they can be judged on as they vary so much. Try looking for fun shows or agility or obeidance shows. They usually allow mixed breeds and try and contact a kennel club or area dog club for more info.

The breed ring(conformation) is a doggie beauty pageant towards supposedly picking the best dog for future breeding. Obviously mixed breeds shouldn't be bred and how could you say one is better looking than the other. There were a couple of organizations that you could get your mixed breed or unregistered purebred a title thru as long as the dog was neutered and completed the tasks for the title. I guess they found not enough support as they seem to be almost non existent. AKC does register neutered purebreds for everything but conformation shows.

The purpose of those "dog shows" is to judge the "ideal" standards of any "particular" breed of dog. It's like a beauty contest for humans.
Though it may not seem "fair" to not have the wonderful mixed breeds being shown, "those" are not the only dopg shows around.. Check out this sight and you just might be surprised!!!!!!

Showing is really about developing specific breeds to a conformation standard for breeding purposes, so they don't allow mixed breeds. Mixed breeds can do obedience work, agility and many dog competitions and sports.

The whole purpose for having dog conformation shows it to evealuate breeding stock to the AKC, UKC, Breed standard so there is no way to judge a mix breed dog against a standard so there is no way to evealuate the dog. Also because this dog is mixed it should not be breed so it would not be evaluating breeding stock.

Mixed breed dogs can go to dog shows and can compete in performance events. Check out the United Kennel Club, or there are plenty of Agility, Obedience, Rally, Flyball, Disc Dog venues for you to compete in. Sign up with your local dog club and they can get you started!
