So I hear a lot of people say that if you spay or neuter your animals (mine are pitbulls) they will behave a lot better. Then there are also stories about after you do spay and neuter them they will become more aggressive, mostly males. What is true, or will most likely happen?

Spaying and neutering is a good idea because there is a huge over population of animals to begin with. Every time I go to the shelter, most of the puppies and dogs up for adoption are pit bulls or pit bull mixes. I've never heard of an animal becoming more aggressive because they were spayed or neutered. Spaying and neutering will prolong life in dogs too. I've seen aggression and "marking" (male dogs peeing all over the place to mark territory) go way down in dogs after being fixed. With females, it decreases their chances of breast and uterine cancer, not to mention they don't bleed all over the place. You also have to keep them away from male dogs when they are in heat. If you have aggressive dogs, they need some serious training. It's not always about the hormones.

Spaying or neutering a dog will remove all hormones from their system that makes them male or female. In males, especially, the hormone testosterone is responsible for growth, drive, mental maturity and physical condition. Fixing a dog does not guarantee that the dog will be aggressive or not after the surgery. Males do tend to lose aggression and become softer, both physically and mentaly. I do not recommend fixing a dog, I have never fixed any of mine, but, I am looking for a work dog, not a pet. I have seen the results of what fixing does to drive in a male and I am not interested. A lot of people will tell you that you should fix every dog because doing so will eliminate the over population problem. Crap. In 27 years of having owned, trained and worked dogs I have never had an "accident" as far as pregnancy goes. I think that if you are a responsible dog OWNER you can eliminate that problem as well.

I think personally it varies on every single dog. A lot of people will tell you that in a male he'll calm down and won't be as aggressive, but that isn't the case all the time.
My mom's chi is still aggressive and he's neutered.
I think that every dog should be spayed and neutered just to keep the population down.
It may calm your dog down and it may not, but I think you should do it anyway.

Males do not get more aggressive after neutering!
The stories you are hearing are just examples of poor ownership!
Sure it's easy to blame an animal or a specific breed for it doing something bad, for most people it would be much to difficult to take responsibility for their own short comings as a responsible owner!!!!!

I have six pit bulls altogether 2 males and 4 females .I really think it depends on the dog .my 2 males are just fine but they did gain some weight, 2 of my females gained weight the other 2 did not and only one of my females got a little more protective over me and I do have to watch her more carefully when someone is around me because she just sits there eyeballing them until they leave but they are all my babies and i wouldn't trade one of them. there names are Satan 8 yrs old he's the daddy. Jade 3 yrs old she's the mommy, Paige 3 yrs old she's the aunt ,Jade and Paige are sisters.and then there is Bear, Peaches and Maggie-Mae they just turned 2 yrs old. They are Satan and Jade children.

spaying and neutering your pets not only helps them live longer and healthier lives, but it also helps reduce the pet overpopulation. regardless of what breed of dog you have, you should absolutly get them spayed/neutered!! i have never heard of a dog getting more aggressive after being fixed. if anything, they might actually become LESS aggressive than before!! PLEASE spay/neuter your pets!!!!!
