I have a 2-year-old British Shorthair cat who sheds a LOT. he started shedding since last summer and now its getting worse and worse. I feed him Royal Canin Indoor 27 or Light 37 since he does have some obesity problems. When I comb him with a CLEAN brush (note : meaning not a single strand of fur on the brush), within a few strokes it'll be full of his grey fur. I bathe him once every two weeks and he takes some vitamins specific for his breed and for male castrated cats. Could this problem be worse because I had him castrated? I'm a student in Russia and i just had no idea that the vet was going to castrate him when i told them i wanted him neutered. Sigh..what should i do? I can't even hug him without changing into my "cat-shirt" first.

what on earth did you think "neutered" meant? they are the same thing.

Use a slicker brush on your cat every day.

stop bathing him so much - no wonder he's shedding so much, you are drying all the oils out of his skin.

get him on some omega 3 fatty acids & if he is obease, stop feeding him so much

Your cat will probably always shed but maybe you can try these things to help. A raw egg a few times a week is god for his coat. Also My cat loved bacon grease and I noticed that when she would lick at some (occasionally) her coat would get a healthier sheen to it. also I know people that vaccuum their pets and if you can appraoch her with out scaring him with the noise, he might actually enjoy it using the brush attachment or hose. maybe you could use a conditioner on him when you bathe him. or maybe bathing himisn't helping. t's possible he is shedding because he is indoors and with the warmth he doesn't need his thick coat. Does he shed all year round or just when its warm?

Is he a big cat, I have friends who have cats who are very big, and do shed a lot. But if you are worried because this shedding problem might affect your cats health, I say its good because when it sheds, more fur grows, doesn't, so thats a healthy sign.

Stop bathing the cat. Cat's clean themselves and you don't need to bath them. That should help becaue bathing dries out the skin and fur.

Cats can sense when you have clean clothes or furniture so they shed in order to make you have to clean some more.

My cat sheds excessively when he has allergy problems. Did you move or change his food recently? He may have allergies to something if your new home or something in his new food.
