"Saber" is to know a fact. "Conocer" is to know someone or something that cannot be completely known, as a city, a language, or a person. Conocer also has the meaning of meeting a person for the first time, as in English, "Pleased to know (or meet) you."

To say that one is or is not acquainted with a person, a place, or an object, use conocer.
Yo no conozco a MarÃa.
I don't know (am not acquainted with) Maria.
Alberto y Alfredo conocen Madrid.
Alberto and Alfredo know (are acquainted with) Madrid.
so IT IS NOT saber, it is conocer
