thanks for all the answers, but what i really want to know is how they can pant and not hyperventilate.
If i were to pant like that i would soon hyperventilate and be in trouble. do dogs have a mechinism to stop this happening? is the air not actually going into their lungs so the oxygen is not absorbed?

Dogs cannot sweat through their skin so panting is their natural way of cooling down. Its what they are mean't to do.

They do not hyperventialate because they are panting to cool themselves down. This all apart of the animal maintaining homeostasis. It an equilbrium to maintain a constant internal environment. The dogs temperature and heart rate are above normal and it order for it to drop down they need to release some of the heat and relax to cool down. Hope this helps.

its becouse its a way of keeping themselves cool, we have pores in our skin that we sweat from dogs dont so the hotter they get the more they pant without hypoventolating

this is how they cool down, if you think it is to heavy, try putting wet towel on its head and in bare skin between legs.
