I think the source of many moral rule is religions, so if there werent religions or God, murder wouldnt be considered as crime today. Life after death is a good motivater for people, it ensures that many people do good things

Well, atheists don't really see it as a choice...

I think the whole idea of God is very comforting and it would be great if it all made sense and there was actually any sign of divine presence in the world, but since the point seems to be that there's never going to be any validation of your beliefs until you're dead, it all seems a bit silly.

But I appreciate someone posting the John Lennon song, because I really do think the world would be a better place if everyone focused on making THIS LIFE as good as possible for themselves and everyone else. No more holy wars, no more discrimination against gays for having completely consensual relationships, etc. What would the world be like if everyone felt equal compassion for every other human being, regardless of religious ideology?

In my idealism, I like to think that if there were a God, that's what he'd want us to do with this life, anyway.

When civilisation first started, theology enabled the civilisation to control its population. As time has progressed and our understanding of our Universe has become greater so there is less of a likelihood of being a god. That is not to say that some super sentient life form could of created life on Earth but it seems more evident that evolution is the most likely means by the way Man came into being. Today, with the different religions all trying to be the most dominant, it has become the tool by which persons wanting power are using their population to create strife between countries or different religious groups. Unfortunately it also has created a less amoral society in those societies that have come to accept the scientific understanding of our evolution. So my answer would be generally "Yes" to the Atheistic perspective given that it would reduce the reasons how persons in power could procreate a war. Thus there being less atrocities done in the name of religion. But would have to accept the fact that by doing so we would and are living in an amoral society.
It's a case of weighing up the Pro's and Con's for each case.

Like many people have already said, it is a godless world. I don't believe in a god, but I'm not sure that if all the non-believers stopped believing things would be better.

I suspect that for many believers, not all I'm sure, their religious belief is an emotional crutch that helps them to cope with their life. Perhaps it really is the opium of the masses.

If you take that away, then what? I suspect that a lot of people would still feel a need for something. Some sort of surrogate parent to help them through adult crises. I do feel that some people who have turned away from conventional religion have sort some other solace in crystals, paganism or aliens or something.

I know this is controversial and I know I'm setting myself up for attack, but to be perfectly honest I do think that some of the people who support religion in these pages are intellectually challenged.

Even if you do believe in a god, some of you believers also know that the supporters of ID are really quite dumb. The arguments dressed in the thinnest intellectual clothes the Emperor posses are laughable.

What would they turn to? Harmless crystals bought on ebay or something worse? Racism? Fascism?

atheism and godless can be taken as 2 different things... actually they are different things !!!

I muyself am happy that people choose to beleive in god as this takes them out of the race - they are still there but liomited by their beliefs.. and some people need to beleive in something whether it be a better life in the next life so they will accept the crap they have to put up with in this life or a god so they can ask his help and rename their own will power into faith....

so is religion for the weak willed - no I dont think that - we have free choice and that freedom covers the freedom of religion (well there is freedom in some counries...)

In the last century or so there has never been more Atheism and as history shows there has never been so much cruelty, suffering and disrespect of humanity.

When you say Atheism, you surely mean the denial of the One True God, for man always has and always will make a god out of the things he wants to worship.

It is often said that there are two things that are certain in this life, death and taxes. That is not accurate.

There are two or three other things more certain.

Man's hatred of God, his always seeking to blame some one else and man's sin.

All are admirably demonstrated here on Yahoo Answers.

No need to prove that God exists.

Man's sin, his desire to shift the blame and his hatred of God is ample proof.

It depends on how the world-wide atheism was achieved. If religion was forced out of everybody, like through mass hypnosis or some type of drug, then no. People would still have something to fight about. There's always some type of racial tension somewhere in the world, for example.

If the atheism came about through non-forceful ways, I don't know. Everybody wants to think that their way is better, the road to peace. I'm too much of a skeptic to believe that. There's always the world's natural resources to fight about, for example.

I can't speak for everyone when I say yes. I used to believe in god and go to church and study the bible all that stuff. I used to pray every night not for money and stuff but real prayers. I was really unhappy when I looked at beneath my skin. Then I said fu*k god and now I have been clean from that tyrant for 4 years and honestly they have been the best 4 years of my life. I went to school graduated in the top 25 of my class. Got an excellent job and an excellent family. I am so much happier now than I ever was when I believed in the lies of religion.

I actual have labored for charities all my existence, I actual have been a director of various, a deputy chairman of two and labored with lepers, the ravenous, the drought striken and in catastrophe factors!! i will provide help to realize that there are much greater non christians working in charities and that they are by means of and massive plenty greater dedicated and greater workers!! regrettably all too frequently christians have been got here across to be attempting to make giving help conditional on going to church or taking over their faith!! This has led to the kidnapping and killing of loads of help workers that christians workers in some international locations are an absolute criminal accountability to all help workers!!! I actual have considered the Salvation military deliver at the same time for yet another charity and raise greater effective than all the different firms in basic terms to quit decrease than all people else because of the fact they had taken out what they observed as their fees!! no person else did that!! The Mormon church in South Africa in basic terms provides help to human beings who pass the church centers and forget approximately much greater needy and deserving human beings!! So there are some stable dedicated christians working in and for charities yet your declare is like loads of alternative fake christian tries to declare the severe floor - merely not authentic and attempting to declare different peoples efforts on your guy or woman!! I wager the Muslims, seihks and different relñigions working so not elementary are particularly disillusioned with you!! certainly in case you somewhat need to work out charity at artwork do look on the Muslims who're much greater charitable and have much greater human beings interior the sphere than christians!!!

We've already seen this world. We called it the "iron curtain."

It was not exactly a great triumph of the human spirit, to say the least. Indeed, it was a veritable lesson in human brutality, and the exaltation of the state over anything and everything (since they had no conception of God to seek humility in.)

It was no small irony that a Pope was eventually instrumental in defeating it.

It makes no difference if it would be better or not. We do live in an atheist world. And it's a wonderful, fascinating and beautifully awe inspiring place.
