Handkerchief Etiquette? Some "hankies" are very expensive....?

When a person cries and someone gives them a handkerchief to dry their tears and wipe their nose, what is the recipient supposed to do with it when they are finished? Keep it or return it to the owner?

The recipient will do the courtious thing and wash it,iron it and return it to the original owner.

Offer to return it and let the person that gave it decide what to do! I will tell you to please keep it no mater what the cost!
