It's the year 300 CE. So we have the Hebrew Scruptures well defined, and the Isalmic movement is emerging in the middle east.

Both are based on the Abrahamic Covenant.

Then Christianity comes in and says "oh no the Covenant was with Jesus, he was BOTH
(1) the son of God, immortal, a divine being, and beyond human undestanding, AND
(2) in the lineage of Jewish Kings reaching back to abraham, ie a direct descendant.

So, doesn't that seem like over-reaching a bit, to be a divine Being AND establish a conclusive link back to Abraham (since both sons were alrady taken by other religiions).

Like, the new kid on the block, has to show up all the other kids to estabish supremacy? "Oh yeah your dad has a BMW? My dad has 5 BMW's....and he OWNS the BMW company"

I choose to say CE because it is generally accepted that BC and AD apply only to those who believe in Christ's life and death. Before Common Era and Common Era is just the thright way to express dates!

"It's the year 300 CE. So we have the Hebrew Scriptures well defined, and the Islamic movement is emerging in the middle east."

Just how did the "Islamic movement begin over 200 years before the birth of Muhammad . He was born in Makkah, in present-day Saudi Arabia, in 570 and grew up as a trader. At the age of 40 he said that he had a visitation from the Angel Gabriel, who gave him messages from God. He told these messages to the people of Makkah, and some believed him and began to follow the teachings of God as revealed to Muhammad. He and his followers were forced to leave Makkah and travel to Medina, where they founded the first Muslim community in the year 622.

By this time the New Testament was being taught is the form we have now for over 300 years.. Since the days that Christian believe that the Holy Spirit came and the Church began that same message has been taught. Jesus was born through the linage of king David of a virgin. He lived a perfect life. He was crucified and dies in our place, the Innocent for the guilty because of our sin. He was buried and raised the third day. If we turn to Him as our God in faith believing, He makes us a new creation cleansed from sin by His shed blood. Jim

Your history is a little off. Christianity started 300 years before 300 and Islam started 300 years after 300.; The Hebrew scriptures were well defined 300 years BC Christianity was not based on the Abrahamic covenant, but was a new covenant based on faith. Nor is Islam based on teh Arrahamic covenant since Ishmael was not in the least a part of it.

Actually, the covenant was with Abraham, through his son Isaac. Genesis spells that out clearly. That didn't seem to clear things up in the Middle East, though. Know why? They're in a real estate inheritance battle. Those always get ugly!

Jesus didn't come to settle this dispute. He came to save the world. And the gospels, contrary to popular opinion, were written as early as 34 years after Christ's ascension.

Hello, my friend. I do not want to make light of your very relavent question, but it did make me laugh. Reason being, I too have questioned and continue to on certain issues, but I had an epiphany about 10 years ago and I want to share it with you. I have study over 15 different religions and I BELIEVE the bible. Again I say "I BELIEVE", because this is what really matters: what do you choose to believe. Their are many scriptures in the bible that I can give you to help you in this area and if you want them drop me an email. My point is this, if you are a christian, you have chosen to follow the teachings of the Christ, So, do that and don't get caught up in a lot of relious, theological questions. Our focus should be on the way we live daily.

Christianity began with Christ and Islam began with Muhammad who wasn't even born until 570 A.D. All of the New Testament was written within 100 years of the death of Christ.

Whatever Muhammad wrote would have been copied from the Christian writings.

The new kid on the block cheated and copied and followed the wrong guy.

You have the order backwards. Islam did not show up till well after Christianity.

Mohammad didn't even come around to establish Islam till 610 C.E. and that's when he started receiving his visions.

Your ignorance is hanging out son, tuck it in your embarrassing yourself.

Do you Anti-Christian thugs ever read anything but propaganda and science books?

Edit: After reading some of the responses I'll answer my own question. Obviously no. You are clueless to history. For pities sake. And you call Christians ignorant. (mutter don't be mean they can't help it their momma dropped them on their head when they was babies)

This coincidence of Jesus' lineage etc shouldn't be a surprise. It was because he was all those things (supposedly atleast) that he convinced so amny people of his title, and subsequent billions after them.

It's not over-reachinb it since he needed to be all those things to be who he said he was.

And don't use CE, it makes you sound pompous, there's nothing wrong with using his birth as a marker, whether you believe his teachings or not (I'm the latter) you have to admit he has changed the world posisbly more than any other single figure in history, thus making him distinguished enough for a marker.

It had to be that way, according to prophecy...One way or another, Jesus HAD to be of Abraham's descent...Joseph wasn't a rich man in the eyes of man, but, he was a man of integrity, well regarded by his fellow man.... a descendant of Abraham AND a man that God could TRUST to raise His Son right, for his Spirit was willing and was open to God's leading....by marrying Mary, Jesus became a descendent of Abraham in man's eyes....

Since the "covenant" was MADE BY God to Abraham....Jesus, the Son WAS the covenant fullfilled.

Peace be with you :)

A core belief of Christianity is that Jesus is both God and man. It's called the mystery of the incrarnation and is found explained in the prologue to the Gospel of John.

Islam wasn't founded until seven centuries after Christ, according to wikipedia. So, Christianity was already established by the time Islam came around.
