I have taken an offical course through SAP Education in Chicago. I liked it, but I am looking for something closer to home. Learn SAP is the only training center I have found in the Detroit area, but it seems a bit shady to me....

I am definitely agree, you must go SAP Education Course otherwise it is too hard to learn SAP.
My advice; contact with SAP. Maybe mail maybe calling ...
This is my opinion, just only they know where is the near SAP Training office,

I have lived in Detroit and Troy. Detroit has more to offer for youngsters looking to have a good time. Greek-town is the center of downtown and you'll be surrounded by clubs and other party-goers looking to hang out. As far as crime, I have never witnessed nor been involved in anything to make me feel unsafe. It's just like any other city.
