Rather depends on what your first two are.
But French is a beautiful language, used to be the international language of diplomacy and to be able to read some of the great French writers in French is well worth the effort.
What are your plans for the future? If your second language is already a romance language and you are interested in languages or a career in foreign service, you might think of choosing a language from a different group - Russian, or one of the Slovak languages - or something oriental, Japanese or Chinese. Once you have one language in a family, it is easier to learn others that are related.
Hebrew is another beautiful language, and to be able to read the Old Testament in the language in which it was written is another lovely experience. Or Greek - both for travel in that part of the world but also to have the same experience reading the New Testament.
And in this day and age, let us not forget Arabic. A language spoken by many around the world, the Koran is never supposed to be translated, only ever read in Arabic - and the Arabic of the Koran is beautiful, again, worth the effort to be able to read the writings of Mohammed in the original.

Since french is a common language, it would be a smart choice to choose because you'd be able to speak it. But if you chose a random language that is only spoken in the country it originated in, you will never get to speak it and you'll lose the language. I'm currently taking french as my second and going for Spanish as my third, but my mother who speaks 5 languages fluently, says that french is on the harder side so it's best to take that one sooner so it makes all the other ones easier. But too late for that. Just take it now, so the ones you take in the future won't be as difficult.

i dont think you're making the right choice by choosing french, and its not the easiest. Also, its not that widely spoken. I recommend u choose spanish because not only do people speak in in Spain, Portugal and other countries around that area, its also very widely spoken in the USA, in places such as Mexico, Peru and even Canada! Great for when you're going on holiday. I've been studying Spanish for 4 years and it is so fun and interesting to learn if you put your heart into it. :D

You should. French is a beautiful language, it flows naturally and is harmonious, unlike some of the european languages like Danish, or German. It is spoken in over 30 euro countries, plus part of africa, The US and Canada. It's so pretty, I think you should take it.

French in a nice, easy language to learn (so far since I am in the middle of taking french), and it is one of those universal languages so I don't see why not.

Instead of sticking up for my preferred language (Spanish, but you already speak that, no?) I will point out that French is a dying language. German is a great language for business in europe, Russian for eastern europe. Also Chinese and/or Japanese and possibly Arabic are also important in today's global economy

The choice is Yours, and Yours alone. It is up to you to determine the path You take. French is a rather useful language if You intend to travel, study the Arts, or have a penchant for the culinary pursuits. Otherwise it only serves to please the beholder.
Which two languages have You already mastered? I trust that they are not Latin and Esperanto?
Bon chance, Mon Ami, Ashleigh.

You're right! I suppose your second language is Spanish.
So English,Spanish and French are spoken all over the world.
French is spoken on the five continents (only English is too!) and isn't that difficult!

What is the second language you chose? Spanish is a good choice as it is the second most spoken language in the world or if you are very daring, Mandarin, Russian or even Arabic would give you the greatest advantages if you wanted a career in linguistics afterwards. But if you want to play safe, then French is a good one or even German but they aren't of much use these days.
