Books can't confirm anything really. You need damn physical evidence.

Words can be intrepreted independently and differently, but evidence and facts are universally acceptable. Hence no books can confirm.

This was addressed before, but i will go over it again.
Open any ancient world history or geography book. Look up the following:
Egypt, Pharaoh, Jerusalem, Nineveh, Jericho, Rome,
Damascus, The Dead Sea, The Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Darius, Herod, Cesar, Israel, Canaan, Babylon, Hittites, Sumerians, David, Moses, Solomon, Abraham, Patmos, Lebanon, Philistines, Phoenicians, Ethiopia....The list is endless. You could pick out a name, date, place in the Bible and cross reference it on the Internet, and come up with about 20,000 hits on each one, and the majority would come from sources outside the Bible.
These are REAL dates times and places. They cant deny the existence of these places because they are still standing, or have found the ruins.
Many places and even civilizations mentioned in the Bible were thought to have never existed until the ruins were found or ancient documents were translated. These were not found by religious kooks, but non-Christian archaeologists who use the Bible as their SOURCE BOOK for clues on where to dig.
You could spend years studying this stuff. I have spent most of my adult life studying the Bible, crack it open, and learn something new about some ancient culture or place, not to mention the obvious spiritual enlightenment.
If you are really into ancient world history, the Bible is a treasure trove of information on how people lived back then. It also show the condition of the human soul, and that we HAVENT changed.
So crack that book open and begin to learn. God bless you in your studies...

We do in a way. There are many books that agree with the Bible in all the sciences and histories. However, we don't want to get the idea going that the Bible is just another book on the shelf.

It alone has survived through the centuries telling us things other books are only now coming to understand. It's author is God the Creator of all things using men as secretaries to write the 66 books over a 1,600+ year period.

what books? - there are as many or more books that disprove the bible than prove it..

I may be biased a I dont beleive the bible or that it is the word of god... I beleive there is no god nor any mythical being - i beleive in myself...

I am a happy athiest or agnostic or whatever I am (not truly bothered enough to look it up...)

someone quosted the things in the bible are true - what the? so noah's ark, garden of eden etc.... no have never read the bible but I do hear things about it and I was dragged to sunday school by my grandmother (lutheran and after a while I told her I wouldn't visit her any more if I had to go to church again... I was a precoscious little 7 year old...)

Of course thinking Christians use study guides and books about the Bible to further their knowledge. It's just that the Primary Source is the one that claims to contain all things necessary for our teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,so that we are thoroughly equipped for every good work. I notice daniel b left Jesus Christ out of his list of biblical persons mentioned in other records.

Interesting. The one person who is supposedly responsible for the existence of daniel's religion is the one whose own existence can't be confirmed.

The biblical stories are set in a time when the appearance of a comet or a two-headed calf could literally set the whole world talking. It seems very strange that the sensational execution of a charismatic young rabbi -- whose death supposedly caused darkness at noon, among other notable phenomena -- was not recorded by any contemporary observer.

Mark is upset because the bible is not true. And you questioned his blind and ignorant belief in it. So he had to insult you to protect his fragile ego.

But we do.

Ever heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls?
And the Elba Tablets? The Moabite stone?

Of course, not EVERYTHING can be so confirmed.

Do you mean true, as in the essence of the teaching is true? Or do you mean true, as in historically accurate and literal?

Biblical scholars have been using outside sources including archeology to confirm stuff for centuries.

The link provided is just one example.
