My fiance and I are getting married July 2008. We were looking at reasonable sites for both the ceremony and reception. But everywhere we looked was just blah and expensive. But, we found a boat that we can charter. Being a california girl I love the beach. But my family from cali has seen a million beach weddings. So this is like a beach but in my eyes it is even better because it is not done as often. Is this a good idea or is a boat wedding just too much trouble?

We got married on an old fashioned paddle-wheel boat. We did not have alot of money for a big wedding and this worked out perfectly for us. The boat was able to accomadate 40 - 50 people. It was a 3-4 hour tour of San Diego Harbor and we were married by the captain under the Coronado Bridge. We were able to have a D.J. and open bar on the boat. We did all the traditional things on the boat (garter toss, bouque toss, first dance, best man speech, and all the dancing you can imagine. Everyone had a blast and all the passing boats knew there was a party going on! We had a simple catered lunch and wedding cake ceremony to complete the boat tour. While it's not for everyone , it worked great for us........still going strong after 13 years.

It would be beautiful.........and you could always have the ceremony on the boat and the reception on shore or vice versa. I know everyone gets married on the beach but what if the ceremony was on the beach and as you walk back done the aisle with your new husband you walk right onto the boat and everyone else follows. that way yu could go below and change into something more comfortable and it gives your guests a chance to get settled in for a great reception that sets sail.

I like the idea, just keep in mind that everyone will be "stuck" (for lack of a better word) on the boat until it docks, so don't try and run the reception too long, and be sure there is plenty of dancing, etc to keep everyone busy!

Enjoy! I think you'll have a blast!

I went as soon as to a marriage ceremony on a harbor cruise. The rite was once at the boat on the dock. After the rite, the boat left the dock. We cruised the harbor, loved a first-class buffet, are living band, dancing. It was once probably the most nicest weddings I had been too. This one was once on a Saturday afternoon. It was once first-rate to benefit from the sunshine and be capable to peer for miles.

I love the idea, how unique and romantic. I'm with you, beach weddings can be common but boat weddings aren't. Good Luck.

I think it would be a lot easier than on the beach because everything is right there. Prices vary as to what you want to do, but those can be very reasonable also. It also would be a lot more comfortable especially for your older guests.
